MikeW
After months of deliberations I picked up my first Caterham last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Taxed it today and have been driving about all night.....can't stay on long because I need to make sure it's still in the garage. The kids think its fantastic and I just need a passenger seat and a harness fitted and I can take them out. I just wanted to say a big thank you to people on this site for all their help. Roger swift, Jamie Jones, Dave Jackson, Graeme Smith and lots of others have just been brilliant with rides, advice and help on all sorts of issues over the last few months. Car I went for in the end was a 1600VX ex academy car and the plan is to start racing in the Graduate Series. It's all pretty new to me so between medicals, ARDS tests, getting some track time and starting car racing for the first time I'm excited, nervous and everything else in between. Got to get back to the garage Thanks Mike
Gary G
Congratulations Mike! Your course of drugs starts here. Only side effects are slight deafness in left ear, right foot becoming heavier than left and a disturbing habit of hanging out in your garage to stare at your baby!smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif C7 GAR id=red>

MikeW
Thanks Guys I am so excited at the moment- tearing round in the rain today- no hood or sidescreens because I don't have any and just having a brilliant time.....if a little sideways. It's off to Demon_Tweaks tomorrow to get the race gear and a few things to fix on the car ( nothing serious) And I still can't find where the horn is. But what I can't understand is whats going on with the site and the postings at the moment. I'm just here for the fun of being an enthusiast for this type of car and everything that goes with it. Anyway hope everything gets back to normal soon and we get back to what it's really about Mike

ChrisHawkins
Congratulations on the first seven you will not regret it, However dont make the mistake I made after I got my one, Having never driven a car like this before I never realised the problems that can be encountered by driving through things that would not normally be a problem in my escort estate. When I brought the car it did not have side screens and drove in some horse crap hitting it with the passenger side front wheel therefore covering the passanger seat with it, I was very lucky that there was nobody in the seat and more importantly i did not hit it with the drivers side front!! Enjoy!!!!!!!! K93 AMJid=green> jetped-boarders.co.uk wink.gifthumbsup.gif
MikeW
Thanks Gary- am actually a bit deaf in both ears now thanks to no sidescreens ( I think I am going to have to get some before I take my other half in the car.... and a seat as well) and if the horse thing that Chris talked about happened I would definitely lose a few brownie points...or worse!! Dave-Lets get together really soon - I'll e-mail you off line to see how your fixed and thanks for the towbar help Miss Mav- I think I met your other half today in Demon_Tweaks( small world) Oh.. and did my first McDonalds drive thru....its a long way up to those counters Mike
pinkprincess
1600 VX ex-racer - excellent choice! Got my 1st Seven nearly two years ago and instead of moving up to De Dion/K-series I'm still planning route runs, upgrade ideas....etc. with this one! Despite all the other nonsense going on about various other topics lately I for one am glad about what seems to me like a recent upturn in posts/threads about these ex-scholarship/ex-Academy cars now relieved from track duty and pounding proper roads! Easy to see why - they're (relatively) low-powered (mine is) yet there's more than enough performance for everyday traffic, cheap to buy and insure (mine was/is), standard battery master switch means it starts 1st time even after months without any action (mine does) and the live-axle/Michelin MXT tyre setup so that newbies can start to find limits of adhesion (mine doesn't - grip, that is.) So now we've got another satisfied Sevener, how about an "8-valve Vauxhall Racer's Register"? They ain't the 'best' 7s out there but at least they've got racing heritage (sort of). By the way Mike, do you know what year your car originally raced? Whatever vintage, I can see you're not regretting it! biggrin.gif Lotus 7, Levi's 501 confused.gifteeth.gif
