website content ideas

I'm at last in the process of producing some websites, one of which is focussed on my interest in the seven among other things.

I'd prefer to produce a site that offers something in addition to the obvious content and piccies you'd probably expect. If anyone has anything they'd like to see in a seven-focussed site and isn't in a position (or wants) to provide it themselves, then let me know either here or offline.

If I get some ideas I'll try and incorporate them into the site as best I can.

Good one. A section on mechanics for idiots would certainly have me looking at it.

In addition a fault finding section would be good. Lights not working properly, check connections if they are ok, check earth if thats ok I'm lost hence the mechanics for idiots section.

I intend to have a section which is aimed at those new to car mechanics or are daunted by the prospect of self-build.

I could include a "sevens for dummies" section with the obvious things, a lot of the questions those not mechanically inclined or practical would maybe feel awkward asking ? I'm not an expert myself but I do have a decent tips and tricks folder on the PC of useful stuff.

I was going to include things like SVA and the cat converter as well.

I have a Dualit - much more sevenesque I think.

The roads idea is quite good though, although my map reading skills are such that my geography teacher wrote "does well to find his way home" on my school report.

There may be a way I can scan the really good blats locally in though, my other half is map mad, we have most of England in various scales. I'll set her a project, she has so little to do with the new baby keeping her out of the City.

A picture of some engine bays, with some little arrows telling us what it all is. Very useful when b*ll****ting about "nice plenum chamber you got there mate".

I was looking at some engines in the queue for Le mans a few years ago, and Mrs Noger asked what the shiny round cylinder thing (anti-cav tank thing I now know) was on some cars. I told her it was an oxygen tank for use at high speed and hurried her away...

I know this sounds really sad, but is it possible to have a se7en that you can suggest colour options for and get a little rotating model? My daughter can do it with dinosaurs!

This is serious as I stuggled long and hard to pick colours for mine and eventually got a good scheme more by luck than judgement. No disrespect but there are some wierd colour schemes out there and it might stop one or two of these if people knew what they were letting themselves in for!

How about a section on upgrades, listing their effectiveness, VFM etc (athough effectiveness is subjective ). It would be nice to see them all in one place.

And a section explaining what all the initials and acronyms (?sp) stand for...

How about a parts number listing for the variuos engines for service items i.e. Oil filter, cam belt, plugs, sump gasket, brake pads, wheel bearings etc.

Also, where to get them if they're not a Caterham only part. I've started to put together a spreadsheet for my VX if you'd like a starter.

photos and videos are always good.

my favourite personal car oriented website here i like because of his regular updates, and a simple front page 'last updated' tag, so at a glance i can go and see if there is any new stuff to peruse.

not sure how he does it but i assume he has written the 'site so that updates are easy to do.

cheers,

IF you've got a Wesh living in your garage then you don't end up with any spare nuts & bolts, they all end up tucked away in it's little pouch smile.gif
