We have just returned from one of the most memorable Caterham trips ever teeth.gif and reality has hit hard (already back at work depsite having only got off the ferry at some obscenely early hour this morning sad.gif).

A very, very big thank you to all who took part and helped to organise this trip but especially to Hugh & kay Dent for inviting us to their lovely home and for entertaining us so well, and to the inhabitants of Montignac and surrounding places for the warmest welcome (and nicest wine) anyone could wish for. We drove hard, ate well and drank plenty - my kind of trip.

Brent - you were missed. The good news is that if the mayor of Montignac has anything to do with it, it will certainly happen again next year!

Just the most fantastic weekend with the greatest team one could be with. Lots and lots of great driving, eating, drinking in the company of superb hosts Kay and Hugh and their wonderful friends from Montignac.

To Tammy & Michael, Hugh & Susie, Chris, Angus, Paul, Steve and Ronnie (Brent & Patricia - you were missed) you were fantastic.

Will we go next year? teeth.gif teeth.gif YeeeeeeeEEEEEESSSSSS

The best blat I've ever been on without a doubt.....only 364 days to go till the next one! Driving a se7en in France is the complete antithesis of driving one at home, everywhere you go people stop, stare, cheer and wave with such genuine enthusiasm and you almost get a sense that they feel privileged for us to have taken our cars to France.

Although everyone enjoyed the markets, the classic car museum and the vineyards (especially the wine tastings) I think without a doubt the highlight of the trip was the Saturday afternoon 'fete' where we were invited to take the village inhabitants (those that were brave enough) for some serious blats round their local roads. A route had already been mapped out by our hosts and the local gendarmes informed, although they agreed with what we were doing they apparently insisted that , of course, the speed limits had to be obeyed, but the local mayor told us not to worry, so we didn't. Apparently next year the mayor will try to have the roads closed for us. The local pressman was there and he wanted to know all about our cars so our 15 mins of fame will be an article in the local rag! He was even brave enough to volunteer for a blat in the only aeroscreened car there and really seemed to enjoy it despite holding onto the dashboard for the whole journey!

A big thank you to our hosts, Hugh and Kay, for organising such an event, it was evident that a lot of hard work had been put in. Also thanks to Phillipe and Katy and the mayor for providing free accomodation to those not staying with Hugh and Kay.

Also thanks to Tam & Michael, Peter & Rosina, Hugh & Susie, Angus, Paul, Steve and Ronnie who made the trip such a easy going, fun-loving and entertaining adventure.

Wow, what a trip the Bordeaux Blat was!

And what a let down to be back ;-(

1,200 miles round trip for us. I couldn't quite say that the car didn't miss a single beat, but at least it made it back! Just goes to show what Crossflow technology can manage.

My sincerest thanks to Hugh and Kay, Philippe and Katy for the warm welcome. Boy do I wish I had roads like that as my playground! There is at least one rural village in France that fully understands just what 7s are about.

Regret that we can't make it to Hartney Witney tomorrow, but I look forward to getting together soon to drool over the photos.

Regards,

Michael.

You know how waterproof what passes for a boot on a Caterham is.... I'll be drying things out for a week (including me)! The footwell must have been half an inch dep when we got home blush.gif

It was Peter & Rosina I felt sorry for - their wipers packed up on day one and the fix was to take them off, hold them in your hand and hang over the top of the windscreen to wipe the rain away! New ones on the way........[/]

Kay & I would really like to thank you all. Without your generous participation and enthusiasm it would not have happened. Not only did you bother to travel the distance but also gave your time to put on probably one of the most memorable days some people will have had and certainly the loudest the village has had. Never have I seen so many smiles as I did from people getting out of cars. Special thanks must ( I am sure the rest of you agree ) go to Angus who I believe must have put in close to 4 hours of trips. I have had total strangers shaking my hand in the local shop praising us all for such a fantastic day. We would also like to thank Chris for arranging the freebies that went down so well, Tamara for helping out with the UK end and Steve. Ronnie + wives for the presents and allowing them to come,Susie and Hugh for the smoked bacon ( had our first bacon buttie tonight) and we are drooling in anticipation for the arrival of the cheese from Peter and Rosina. Again many thanks. We both thoroughly enjoyed your company so much so that we really miss you and would like to repeat the experience tomorrow!!!!

But in Arnie's words 'You Will Be Back'!!!!!!!

Well folks, it seems to have already been said most admirably by all, but to add our tuppence-worth, it was a privilege to be amongst such an eclectic group of like-minded Se7eners for the long week-end smile.gif

For those who are counting, the mileage was nigh-on 1,400 (but I think we're under reading), the last 200 or so spent on crowded rain soaked British motorways sad.gif but the memories of seven or more Se7ens in a perfectly formed line, passing majestically through the French countryside is imprinted on our memories. The reactions from the locals - first the noise, then the sight of the leading car, followed by another, and another .......... the delighted waves from the children ....... the dog that looked as if it had been auditioning for a part as an extra in the crowd at a ladies' tennis match blush.gif the food, the wine, the welcome we received from all the "Montignacards" ..... we could wax lyrical for a whole page

Hugh, Kay - our heartfelt thanks for all your hard work, your indefatigable hospitality, your humour and candour! Thank you for introducing us to your friends, your food, wine and your roads. Thank you for letting us share the experience and yes please, after allowing Brent to take first place in the Bordeaux reunion, may we bag the second?

We have just opened a bottle of Chateau Bel Air, suitably chilled and raise our glasses to you all wink.gif

Tam and I are sitting here, listening to the CD from the Saturday night band (Thanks to Peter and Rosina), drinking Bordeaux wine and thinking about the last week.

Cant bear to see this thread dropping from top place on Blatchat as this makes the end seem all the more final.

A L'annee prochaine!

Michael & Tam.
