Dirty Den
I've got some small tar deposits stuck to my rear arch paintwork and ali protection plates, washing with car wash/hot water won't get it off the paint. Does anyone have any ingenious ways of getting rid of the little black spots? Cheers, Den teeth.gif - Self portrait - still unable to remove the smile! kenny.
Some people find it dodgy, but I use Acetone to get tar off the Ali, you can also use it on gelcoat, but never try it on paint. I pay a fiver for 5 litres from my local paint supplliers and find it's one of the best cleaning agents about...as I said a lot of people frown on this. deeps
I've always used car polish.
Area Representative Nick Chan Posted June 9, 2002 Area Representative Share Posted June 9, 2002 I use MER polish. If the tar has hardened then gently scrape the surface with your fingernail and wipe polish on and the tar spots will vanish... Nick

FH
Try traffic film remover. Not sure if it's available non-trade but it works brilliantly thumbsup.gif
Dirty Den
Thanks for all the suggestions chaps. Nick - I use Mer normally to wax it, but the weather looked like it was going to turn, so didn't wax it, just washed it again with a Mer/water mix. I'll try neat Mer on the tar, if it doesn't want to come off, I'll look at the other suggestions. Den teeth.gif - Self portrait - still unable to remove the smile! scooby dooby doo
silicone polish works pretty well. spray on, wipe off. hardly any elbow grease required and it prevents it sticking the next time. there's a Unipart version i've used. Steve W
Auto Glynn ?? intensive tar remover works very well. For the very hard bits try T cut ! I know as I've just spent the weekend cleaning the car up for the Le Mans trip.

Alex Wong1697456877
I use T cut and occasionally, a tiny bit of petrol or gunk which I rinse off with water immediately. Doesn't seem to mark the paint but best test it in a hidden area first. V7 SLR
You know that foam spray that is sold to clean computer "hoods" (meaning the monitor surround)..?? Well, that works a treat. It's never hurt my paintwork but then I always run a wet sponge over it after use anyway, just in case.
