JWW
The Middlesex and West of London area are holding their June meeting at a different venue. Instead of the Rose & Crown PH, we are holding this months meeting at the Ace Café on the North Circular Road just to the east of the A40 Hanger Lane underpass. Recently re-opened, this roadside café was THE meeting place for bikers in the 1950s and 1960s. Web Site http://www.ace-café-london.com Anyone interested in joining the Middlesex regulars? See you at The Ace. JWW Edited by - jww on 5 Jun 2002 21:29:
sjwb
Went there last year for the grand re-opening, absolutely first class. A good venue and easy to find - I might just have a drive down. Steve B

Andrew Walker
There are a huge number of Seven owners in the west London area, it would be great to have a good turn out for this event.

Adrian Williams
What's this John, a record atempt on how many speeding tickets one club can gain in one night? Must be about 4 camera's in the last 2 miles of the journey.

tezza
Typical, I have my first chance to go to a meeting and I have to go away to Magaloof(not sure spelt right) for a stag-do. Plus it's only a 10 minute drive from me, GUTTED. P.S. hope it's good so that It becomes a regular meeting place. terry
JWW
Sorry about the speed cameras. We'll just have to behave a tad! I suppose it's more difficult in a R500 than in my old gurl! Anyway, here's hoping that the weather's good and that we get a good turn out. The people at the Ace say that one of the classic car mags are planning to put in an appearance, so don't forget your make-up! Blatman
Onespeed. Do you work at Motorcycle City perchancequestion.gif Staples corner to the Ace, there are only 2 speed cameras. 1 opposite the Welsh Harp, and one just before the iron bridge at Stonebridge Park. There is a traffic light camera at Brentfield Road by Ikea, and if you forget to turn off at Park Royal and end up doing a lap of the Hanger Lane Gyratory, you won't trigger the speed camera going east unless you forget to turn off........again......teeth.gif So you can still emulate the Cafe reacers of yesteryear without incurring remote control points on your licence........... Nifty
Might well turn up. I am planning to spend the night at my mate's in West Ealing before meeting up at Arnie's on Wed morning for the Le Mans trip. Should be a good way to start the week. Anyone give some clear instructions for a country bumpkin coming off the M25 down the A40 into town. Please remember I will be driving a 4x4 so will not be able to make sudden lane changes at the lights etc!! Also need a little more room to park/turn than a 7 so please don't send me down some ridiculously small alley! Usually sticks out like a sore thumb being the only dirty 4WD in the metropolisteeth.gif. However, due to travelling to France I thought it best to wash the FMD and BSE off!! Don't want to be turned back. Green Isuzu Crewcab with white pickup canopy and two L7C stickers on rear tailgate, can't miss it. Many thanks, Nifty
JWW
From the M25 along the M40/A40 towards London. Don't go into the Hanger Lane Underpass but take the slip lane upto the giratory. Take the A406 towards Wembley/Neasden etc. Then turn left into the first service road entrance. You should pass World of Leather and an Oriental food store etc. and The Ace Cafe is on you left. Please leave your beautiful 4 x 4 in the service road as there can be a shortage of space in the Ace's car park and we'd like to reserve this for Lotus and Caterham Sevens. Nifty
JWW, Thanks for that. If car park is tight I wouldn't want to get into it anyway because you can guarantee some d**k (i.e. non-7 driver) will park to leave you insufficient room to get out. I said it would be clean, but not beautiful!!???
Blatman
Onespeed. If you mean Brent Cross (A406) flyover, they've gone. If you mean the A5 feeder road from Kilburn onto Staples Corner itself, I haven't been "down" there for ages so can't comment. There are no cameras on the westbound Brentfield Park underpass (what was the Harrow Road junction, I presume). There is no camera westbound under the rail bridge, or any of the other underpasses westbound, but there is one eastbound. However, it's after you should have turned off for the Ace......(there are camera markings on the A406 westbound, by Motorcycle City, but there has NEVER been a camera there....). I use this route 10-15 times a week, and have driven it more times than I care to mention over the last 20 years, 17 of them despatch riding. I used it today. I included the traffic light camera at Brentfield Road (Ikea) in my first post. Go have a look (at my first post, and the North Circ)..........smile.gif JWW Never owned a Norton, but I have ALWAYS been a biker........ Nifty Do come and say hello this time............oh yeah, the first slip road immediately after the Gyratory on the A406 will take you to an industrial estate that contains the shops JWW mentions. I don't think you can get to the Ace from there, so it's actually the second slip road. Look out for a big Motorcycle City shop on your right, and the slip road will be very quickly up on your left. Graham Perry
Last two Cameras westbound are before the iron Bridge. I Go down there about three days a week and they are not yet painted Yellow
Roger Green
I can't be there I'm afraid - going on holiday for the week. So please take plenty of pics and can someone make a few notes for Low Flying. Have fun.
Andrew Walker
I can't believe that we're having an argument about the number of speed cameras. However, we could settle this by having Onespeed and Blatman drive up and down the A406 on Tuesday evening at high speed counting them together. Nifty, get into the nearside lane of the A40 early, it is segregated by diamonds painted on the road, so easy to spot. It's then the 2nd exit off the giratory (A406). Blatman
We're not arguing, just making sure that everyone knows where they are, so that those unfamiliar with the area know where the accident blackspots are.......... That was simple then............ I'd happily drive it with Onespeed, but I won't wait for him....teeth.gifteeth.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif
Jim and Tonic
A couple more grey gatsos to chuck in. Both on the A40 heading inwards to London. The first is about a mile into the 50 zone, just outside B&Q. The second is in the 40 zone just after the Hoover building, now a Tesco, and about a mile short of Hanger Lane.
