7 wonders of the world Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Has anyone done this? Can it be done? Will the CSR stays fit an S3, and am I right in that the CSR front wings are around 20mm wider than S3 versions or am I looking at amking my own stays Thanks Too young to be old !
Ash.Bailey Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 yes yes yes yes no thanks next ! 😬 If It aint yellow, wonky and wobbly................ 😬
Mark Durrant Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I have done this and I did make my own stays. IIRC the CSR stays do not fit a S3. Mark D Comp Sec
DaveK Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I'm pretty sure i was told that if you reverse the std wing stays side to side ie left stay on right wheel, then this will allow you to fit the CSR wings on the std stays. I may be wrong and the above is completely wrong, but its worth a try. Dave
7 wonders of the world Posted December 11, 2007 Author Posted December 11, 2007 Now I'm even more confused - 3 very different answers Wonky - are you sure the CSR stays will fit an S3 🤔 Dave - not sure how you'd use std stays as the CSR wing fitment is different ie 1 stay over the top and 1 bolted flanged on the inside of the wheel thus enabling the snug fit 🤔 Mark did you simply rework your S3 stays, is the rear stay in the correct place for the SCR wing 🤔 Thanks for your replies guys Too young to be old !
Mark Durrant Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 The only parts I used from the original stay is the boss that bolts through the stub axle and the flat metal plate that bolts through the top mount ands connects the two stay tubes. However, the top plates were switched, the N/S to the O/S and vice versa, then cut down to get the correct angle for the CSR wing fixings. The tubes were new metal that was bent and cut to fit before welding to the boss and top plate. I have heard of the method DaveK describes however, when looking to fit mine I was not happy with this as the rear mount went under the wing and not through the side as per the CSR. 7 wonders of the world Posted December 11, 2007 Author Posted December 11, 2007 Thanks for that Mark, Understand exactly what you've done now, out of interest what size wheel / tyres are you running at the front, and do you have any piccy's ? Thanks *thumbup* Too young to be old !
Irrelevant Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 I have CSR wings on mine.... See here and here. I made the wingstays up myself using bits from standard wingstays and some 4130 I had kicking about. . .. absolute barsteward job it was as well. That's a 215 Kumho on there in the first photo on an 8" Caterham rear rim. I normally use 8" fornt wheels with either 175/530 or 180/550 radial slicks (i.e. CSR race or F3 fronts).
Mark Durrant Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 7WotW I currently run 185/60 x 13 but will be changing to 215/50 x 13 early in the new year. Drop me a Blatmail and I''ll email you some pictures later today. As Adam said not the easiest of jobs and I estimate it took me around 6 hours to fabricate with Peter T's assistance/welding Mark D Comp Sec

Irrelevant Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Dave, yes please - I will be over your way at the end of the week - you about Friday evening? If so, please email me your address and number 7WOTW - if you want to put wide fronts on and keep standardish offsets (and maintain steering characteristics) bespoke wingstays are needed (whatever wings you put on them) as the standard wingstays run too close to the inside of the wheel.
Jason Plato Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Adam you have mail here is C7 TOP Taffia rear gunner
7 wonders of the world Posted December 12, 2007 Author Posted December 12, 2007 Hi Mark Excellent piccy's, they all arrived safe and sound, many thanks for sorting these out, I tried to reply to your mail but I was told 'address does not exist' technology thanks again, *thumbup* Too young to be old !
Mark Durrant Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Neil Pleased to hear they arrived OK and good luck with the fabrication Mark D Comp Sec
martin b Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I fitted csr wings on my last car, I think they look good I used 185/60 tyres but agree would look better with wider rubber. I think you can see them on my sig below as I haven't updated it yet If you use the car in all weathers or are a polisher I would be careful as I found they throw up a lot more cr*p from the road all over you and the side of the car, water seemed to come out with quite a spray right over the screen too, obviously in a straight line no probs but those bends.... 😬 Good luck Martin Edited by - Martin B on 12 Dec 2007 18:15:09 Edited by - Martin B on 12 Dec 2007 18:15:47
martin b Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I will add sig below as it seems I can't add it afterwards Martin L7 BYK Now here
captain chaos Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I looked at buying the mog wings and they told me if you reversed the stays left to right you could fit their CSR type front wings on the std stays.
Irrelevant Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 captain chaos: That's pretty clever of them if they have actually designed their CSResque wings to fit a reversed std stay
7 wonders of the world Posted December 13, 2007 Author Posted December 13, 2007 Hi Martin, Nice car Out of interest did you fabricate your own stays 🤔 and are they the genuine CC carbon versions 🤔 cheers Too young to be old !
captain chaos Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Adam, Well that's what Graham told me on the phone when I specifically asked about it.
martin b Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Wings are MOG carbon I was very fortunate to find some stays taken from a customers car at a local dealership as they were trying to bring the other car back to original spec They were really nicely fabricated, ask Byker Will the new owner, i'm sure he could send you a couple of piccies if he could prise the cover off and fight his way through the golf trolleys 😬 The back section of the stay could be sleeved and you could have an adjustable height front stay to cope with different tyre heights, well thats if you have more time on your hands than me. Sure the reverse wingstays aren't that easy Martin
BYKer Will Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Martin 7WOTW I will take some at the weekend but don't know how to host them. Martin I might email them to you for your sig. 😬 Best Will
7 wonders of the world Posted December 14, 2007 Author Posted December 14, 2007 BYKer Will, Good news on the piccy's, could you blatmail them over to me cheers Too young to be old !
Irrelevant Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 captain chaos: It's just occurred to me that you couldn't possibly use standard stays for MOG's CSR wings as the front stay leg would be too high. They must mean you can use modified reversed standard stays - i.e. with the front leg cut down and a plate welded on.
