Having more power going through a live axle,

When i am on a dry track and using slicks, i feel that the rear end has too much movement in it. On occasions and round tight right long bends, there was even a small jolt as though the axel seemed to move 1 cm to the right, then re-adjust itself on the straight and fine around left and short corners.

I have a spherical joint on the A frame, english axle, disca and everything else std. All joints tightened and wheel bolts, discs etc, tight.

Can anyone recommend ways how to strengthen the rear end?

Have you checked your half shafts are shimmed and there is no movement? If they aren't, they can move a fair bit, not 10mm, but enough to feel like it.

Are your A frame side bushes OK?

Elie Boone on here has done a 5 link rear axle and done away with the A frame altogether if you wanted to take it a step in that direction but obviously it's not a 5 minute job that.

I will check all bushes and yes i have half shafts on the axel. Will check the A frame

You are right Adam, what may feel like 10mm may only be a minor movement.

Think it is also to do with very sticky tyres. They will not give at all. the corner was a massive down hill, camber right, left hander at Anglesy. i had 2 large people in the car going at serious pace and it just felt that back end gave a little!

I have a feeling that it is the A frame. It may require a shim on each side. It has 2 bolts holding it in on each side, but could imagine there may be a spare few mm to move around on the track!

Julion, can you put me in touch with Elie Boone as the 5 link rear end may be a longer term project to consider. Was there anything on Blat to look at?

Thanks for your help

With increasing age, some people find it necessary to exercise their pelvic floor muscles in order to strengthen their rear end. This is done by imagining you are passing urine and stopping mid flow. You should hold this muscle contraction for 5-10 seconds, then relax and exhale. Repeat 10 times. Do this once or twice a day for best results, the exercise can be done while seated.

Let me know how you get on and whether these exercises do anything to stiffen things up. As an alternative I can recommend cycling for 20-30 minutes twice or three times a week. *tongue*

Batterdoldsupersport,

i am very worried about you. Unless you are a women, this type of exercise is not a well known past-time for blokes.

Ah well, many different sorts drive Caterham cars, so we should be welcoming to all types!
