steyning Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 🤔Can anyone verify that the standard Brake Master Cylinder on a 1996 X-Flow is a Girling item stamped 74880152 043 ? Mine is a bit corroded. Is there a cheaper way to replace without the £117.00 ☹️ Caterham price tag? One local supplier says they are obsolete !!
Revin Kevin Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Steyning, What's the problem with it? If it's leaking seals, kits avaliable from Redline Components (and else where I'm sure) are £20 ish and rebuild yourself. Cheers Chris
Hazzer Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Hi, I posted a topic up about this last year - do a quick search. Or! Stick a "Wanted" Post up for a Master Cylinder - normally a few spare ones out there! Cheers Haz

steyning Posted November 22, 2007 Author Posted November 22, 2007 Thanks everyone. Morgan is on my daily commute so will try to get the seal kit and reassemble the cylinder - any top tips on this, plus what is the correct wheel order for bleeding the brakes at the end of the job 🤔
Revin Kevin Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Steyning, To diassemble remove the dust cover then the cir clip at the front and prize off gently the resevoir. In the rear most hole for the resevoir is a small pin, remove this and the tadem cylinder should come out with a few taps from behind. Replace seals and assembly is reverse of above. Use break fluid to lubricate the seals. For bleeding, start with the longest run first. Cheers Chris
steyning Posted November 23, 2007 Author Posted November 23, 2007 Thanks for that - will have a go as soon as I have the seal kit.
