Andrew_H Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 This is the first time I have fitted a flywheel / Clutch and would just like to clarify something before having a go tonight. The standard ford part I have taken off has a surface like a brake disc on both the flywheel side and the clutch cover side. The raceline lightweight flywheel has no such surface and is all a black metal finish but the AP clutch cover does. My question is should I have something between the flywheel and the clutch plate? This could be a very stupid question and the first of many as I'm fitting the duratec over the next few weeks Thanks for any help in advance.
Kevsta Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 No experience of that flywheel but as far as I am aware they are all the same. The flywheel transmits the engine forces to the clutch so nothing to go in between. It might be that the clutch just takes the finish of the face over the first couple of drives (kinda like new discs)
Sheds Moderator Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Sounds like an anticorrosion film or some sort of passive oxide coating. Degrease the thing with petrol and a rag, then fit it. I'm sure the thing will polish up in use. 😬
Andrew_H Posted November 19, 2007 Author Posted November 19, 2007 Thanks guys, thats what I wanted to hear. Andrew
