flaps7 Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 I made the mistake of attempting to use the under-the-dash-handbrake. On releasing my thumb from the button, the button launched itself out of the handle and, after ricocheting around the 'cabin', settled in the footwell. Not lost so a result there. What's bust? Rick
I.Mupferit Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Your handbrake button! Brent (aka Arfur Nayo) 2.3 DURATEC SV Reassuringly Expensive R 417.39 😬
Hurtle Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 The button is just screwed onto a bar inside the handbrake, has it just come unscrewed??
flaps7 Posted November 14, 2007 Author Posted November 14, 2007 Thanks for the info; I'll see if I can screw it (up) back on. Not a button but a knob I presume; or am I the knob? Cheers guys Rick
Sheds Moderator Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 😬 Only if you can't screw it back together! As others have said the end of the pin that operates the mechanism is threaded. It's either broken off (trouble) or unscrewed (easy). Put it back on with a drop of Loctite.
JACK FLASH Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Dear Rick, During the first year of Seven ownership I had the same experience ! It is just a matter of screwing the button back in.
flaps7 Posted November 14, 2007 Author Posted November 14, 2007 HOPE......with a following wind I'll be screwing later tonight, unless of course me knobs broken off. My god, I'm too old to be screwing (on unscrewing) in a car. Thanks for the help.
alextangent Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 It's much easier screwing it in than whipping it out. The handbrake, that is. Alex McDonald A loud 1700 SS
flaps7 Posted November 14, 2007 Author Posted November 14, 2007 deep joy.....sucsessful screwing, with knob only once launching itself in an uncontrolled manner. Thanks for info. No more playing with knob under dashboard, I shall leave well alone; for show only. Although I'm of the age where 'for show only' is becoming a by word. Rick
pinkprincess Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Hi Rick, if that's my old 1600VX you're still pedalling around in I'm not surprised about the broken h/brake. It broke twice on the way back from LM in '01 & again in '02! Hope all's well. RW04FUN
flaps7 Posted November 14, 2007 Author Posted November 14, 2007 Hi Rich - what do you mean still pedalling....Been going great. The only unexpected excitement (other than a couple of early spins) was having the throttle cable jam open . And the only time you realise its jammed is when you want to break; like for a bend. The car is still great fun and I still get a buzz thinking I've got it. Saw you built one; still got it? Next year I'll get a run down to your meet. Rick
