Rob Walker Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Anyone know where I can buy a spherical joint replacement kit for the top ball joints on my top wishbones? I am aware that freestyle do such a kit but its £195 and I am looking for a more cost effective solution. Anyone done their own DIY kit if so what did you use? What is the thread in the end of the top wishbone 5/8ths UNF bye any chance ????? Rob
caterhamnut Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Pretty sure F355GTS got some from somewhere else, so he may be able to help when he sees this - but I also seem to remember he had some bend. I think he then changed the spec, but he'll be able to tell you more.... www.mycaterham.com here Videos here 101,000 miles car
F355GTS Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Goldstar racing in Basingstoke do the kit for £250 IIRC, and that was for the cheaper Rose joints which bent on braking (on mine and HF's) the uprated Rose joints were about £90 a piece I beleive then oyu need a sleeve, spacers and lock nut Mark
Jason Plato Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Got mine from Cougar motorsport in Brum' I paid £90 inc without the rod end bearings here is C7 TOP Taffia rear gunner
DSL Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 You will definatley not bend the Freestyle supplied ones in normal use. I did but that was by slamming the car into the armco at about 50mph 😳 😬
Rob Walker Posted November 13, 2007 Author Posted November 13, 2007 Mark, They bent under braking ? I assume this was due to the wishbone moving more than the max misalignment angle spec`d for the rod end? Rob Edited by - Rob Walker on 13 Nov 2007 13:51:34
Bricol Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Betcha they bent forward on the top wishbone? And betcha you were surprised about the direction of bend? Overloaded under braking due to the reaction torque applied to the top arm under braking - which with grippy tyres will be rather high. And applied in just about the weakest direction for a rod end.
