The top couple of centimetres of my steering column that is visible above the dash is showing signs of rust, and is squeaking!

Rather than put oil/grease on it, which seems to be attracted to my trousers when i get in/out with the wheel removed, is there any reason why I can't use Silicon lubricant (which i happen to have a spray can of 😳) on it?

Thanks.

Good, thanks.

I couldn't think of a reason why not, but then I'm not renowned for my vehicle maintenance skills *wink*

I slipped a short length of black electrical heatshrink over the bare column, it looks a lot better than rust. I have the quick release wheel, dont know how easy it would be if you have a fixed wheel.
