Ian B Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 The top couple of centimetres of my steering column that is visible above the dash is showing signs of rust, and is squeaking! Rather than put oil/grease on it, which seems to be attracted to my trousers when i get in/out with the wheel removed, is there any reason why I can't use Silicon lubricant (which i happen to have a spray can of 😳) on it? Thanks. Ian - MI 5EVN - Slightly Vider SVelte model 😬 now repainted to match the Autocom headsets 😳
Molecular--Bob Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Its what i used 6 months ago when i put a new upper column and bushes in and it all seems ok so far.
Ian B Posted November 3, 2007 Author Posted November 3, 2007 Good, thanks. I couldn't think of a reason why not, but then I'm not renowned for my vehicle maintenance skills Ian - MI 5EVN - Slightly Vider SVelte model 😬 now repainted to match the Autocom headsets 😳
strij Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Ian I slipped a short length of black electrical heatshrink over the bare column, it looks a lot better than rust. I have the quick release wheel, dont know how easy it would be if you have a fixed wheel. John S
