Nifty Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I was just reading another thread and noticed reference to Steve Greenauld remapping an MBE. I currently have an MBE on the R400 engine but was going to switch to an Emerald for ease of mapping etc. Is it possible for the man in the street to change the map in an MBE,as it is an Emerald, and thus have a road map and a track map ... and the MoT map of course !! Keep off the straight and narrow 😬
Casbar Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Yep, once you have a comms cable fitted. I had mine mapped by Steve, he then sent me the original map and a copy of the new map. You then need the software, which SBD allow you to download for free. Oh you also need the code to unlock the ecu, mine was 8654 as most are :)
F355GTS Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Nifty as said, the Caterham one comes without the comms cable but Steve G can sell you the bit required to wire it in etc. Presumably if you change to Emerald you'd need a new Engine loom? Mark
Peter Carmichael Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Steve also rates the MBE 967 as the best system for rapidly dialling in a map. I've seen him do it and he is very quick with it. Best not to report the comments he made on my use of an EFI-Tech ECU... ... although he did reckon I'd done a good job of setting it up 😬
dannylt Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I remember him swearing at the EFI system (standard for btcc cars) - it does have a weird interface! Nifty - I had a switchable MBE years ago, but you can do it trivially with a laptop at worst. Not sure I'd care about any track/road map, but MOT is possibly useful. My MBE was converted to Emerald because that was the cheapest way of getting 8 injector control. If you're not bothered about not being able to map it locally (i.e. Emerald) then far easier just to leave it.
