scooter Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I have an RX8 engined 'side-project' on the go just now, but need to Dry-Sump purely to prevent oil starvation. There is no off-the-shelf kit available for this engine and the prices quoted to make a 'one-off' are astronomical. Therefore, what about DIY? Is it safe (in theory) to suggest that the OEM sump pan could be drilled / tapped to take a suitable number of scavenge pumps and that the OEM oil return pump be blanked off, or am I about to give myself (yet another!) migraine... I know it's a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but all opinions welcomed!
Molecular--Bob Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Are you sure you need to dry sump this? I don't think the cars in the race series have them. You would also need to deal with the oil injection pick-up in some way. Are you running the stock computer? If not how are you controlling the air vaves in the intake? These guys seem to know about them here, might be worth an e.mail to see what is possible.
scooter Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 Cheers guys. I spoke to Starmazda (open wheeled racing series in the States) and they said any slicks 'n' wings RX8 Renesis engine will need dry sumping. Unfortunately, their kit costs a fortune! I'll be running a Motec which has the functionality to deal with the oil metering pump. I plan to use an aftermarket fuel pump and regulator and have a fuel return line to a swirl pot. I spoke with Pip at WGT. They have kits for the RX7, but they're not sure if they can adapt for RX8 use. Edited by - scooter on 29 Oct 2007 21:05:27
