Having bought and fitted tillets a few months ago, I offered my somewhat shorter friend a shot of my car. Problem occured when he tried to move the seat forward. Since fitting I've never needed to move them but the seat just seems wedged in and wont move. On the right of the seat there's a small gap but on the left, the tillet seems too close to the tunnel which by the way is covered in carpert - yeah I know...a SLR with carpet but that's another story *wink*

Soooo, either my seat in incorrectly fitted (I doubt) or I need to remove the carpet. I peeled the carpet back but you're left with a bare mental / glue eyesore.

I have looked on carbon-bits and thought of something like this:

http://www.carbon-bits.com/images2/7kev4.JPG

but it's too yellow and wouldnt match my carbon dash. I thought it would maybe be thinner than my carpet and have a less resistance (tillet would find it easier to slide along carbon than carpet).

Any solutions?

Cheers

Gareth,

My car does exactly the same thing. Tillet will go as far forward as the chassis cross member in the floor but cannot go any further forward. It stops short 🙆🏻s driving your car (I wonder how Ross manages - perhaps he has got a booster seat 😬)

Richard also does plain 2x2 carbon fibre which would match your dash.

Yep, welcome to my interior 😳 I quite like my bare ali tunnel but the bit that was once carpeted (gawd knows why) is pretty ugly. Over the winter, I'm going to try various solvents to see if I can lift the glue remains; failing that, I might attack it with an abrasive and see if I can lift it that way.

We should compare eyesores to see whose glue is the worst *smile*

G, lets face it, quite lot of folk are 'somewhat shorter' than you 😬 I would assume that you have your seat quite a bit further back than I do mine. Did you manage to move it at all when trying to adjust it and, if so, how far from the rail across the floor did you get the front edge?

I know that I've at least one click (if not two) forward adjustment left on the drivers seat, this would put it slightly ahead of the cross floor rail and would make it very uncomfortable for me (5' 9") to get in or drive. How tall is your mate?

Another idea, at the Knockhill handling day that RiF organised earlier in the year there was a couple sharing a light blue car fitted with Tillets (sorry I've forgotten your names). She was considerably shorter than he was but managed to drive the car perfectly well with a large pillow stuffed between her back and the Tillet seat. I'm sure if your mate is keen, he can find a suiltable bit of padding *thumbup*

Seat won't move forward or backwards.

Might take it out during the weekend. Perhaps the rails need greased...

Oh, I'm 6'2 and mates around 5'7....pah...men shouldn't be that short 😬

Make sure the front cap head bolts that hold the tillet to the runner aren't fouling the bolt in the bottom of the runner that holds it to the floor.

That was the problem I had which meant the wife couldn't get the seat far enough forward.

Funnily enough I didn't mention to her when I had solved and rectified the problem 😬

SWMBO can't reach the pedals in my car, which IMHO is a good thing *biggrin*

It's my Toy, and she can't play with it!

Yes, the mounting bolts can be a real issue - if hex head bolts have been used they need to be VERY carefully positioned to enable the runners to pass properly. Much better to use socket head (cap) bolts.

As far as the ally tunnel is concerned, if you don't want to go to the expense of replacing it with CF it's fairly easy to remove it and have it powder coated. Beware though that once you start you'll be doing the rear bulkhead and other bits as well. Some details of when I did mine here.

Gareth,

Why not try a very simple thing like swapping the seats over.... Tillet seats do vary slightly and its possible your driver's seat is wider than the passenger one. Otherwise, try putting some washers under the runners to lift the seat slightly from the deck and this can radically effect the adjustment you will be able to get with the seat.

TC is 5'6" (and a half - if she reads this!) and I am 6'2" and neither of us have problems with driving her SLR at all. In fact, I have to have the seat set mid way as I can't quite reach the pedals as there are 13mm spacers under the runners.

Swapping the seats over has to worth a try as its FREE 😬

Oops, meant to say the problem with the driver's seat not moving far enough forward was exactly the same problem with a new R400C owner who did the tillet swapover and solved the problem for his wife to drive the new car.

Nick/Gareth - not a prob - nobody else drives my car *smokin* (except you G at that Autotest *wink*)

I don't have that problem cos mine has no carpets (or heater - is your's an SLR Ghia X?) - but I seem to remember point this fact out to you at Knockhill last week 😬
