I have one that's virtually identical from Tandy (Radio Shack) It seems to work ok although I haven't calibrated it. I use it to get a qualitative check through the season to help decide whether to repack the silencer. Its probably within a dB or so. Good value for £10. Pretty yellow microphone shroud too!!

 

Mine has a tripod thread in it which is useful so you can set it up at the right distance and angle

So I reckon thats a then - if nothing else it will do for comparing changes.

Stick a bit of bamboo on the end to get the distance from exhaust, and we are away...!

A lot of Nokia models have a noise meter application.

I have the similar one from Tandy and it does seem to compare quite well with the one MSE use, can't be far out.

Well guy's Nokia do have phones with sound meter's built in I was at a gig the other night a reading of 115 DB was taken maybe it was right maybe not but then again it may be good enough has anyone tried them
