Crumpynut Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 I have had my 7. 87 Xflow for aroudn7 years and surprisingly not yet run out of petrol. The fuel guage is as erratic as maost seem to be, what is the tank capacity, it usually takes 20-25 litres when I fill it but I never know how close I am to really being empty.
Stationary M25 Traveller Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Current Standard car 36 litres Gauge/sender set up hopeless - there is another thread on this/bending the sender arm, etc. When my gauge is banging on the bottom stop, I can never get more than 30 litres in (an SV with a 41 litre tank). Don't want to be too brave though...... ****************** And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking... And racing around to come up behind you again. dickbowyer Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Never got more than £26=26l in my SV! Dick Superlight SV Duratec R400
Chaz23 Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 I have a X/F too. I have been advised never to let the gauge go below a quarter so I now fill up just after 100 miles which is about 25l. I personally feel that is sensible to fill it up then even though there is still about 10l left as it gives you a chance to get to a garage if you are low. Also I tend to keep filling up till I can see fuel at the top so I know I have a full tank - well it will not be full when I get home though 😬
puremalt Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Don't read Peter C's post then, makes me depressed 😬 This one goes up to 11
Drumster Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Maybe I have a reliable gauge 😳, regularly let 140 miles pass by before filling up, even if I let the gauge drop past E I still only manage to get 30 litres in. Chris Alston C7CAT 1800 Supersprint R248.89 ....and then I jumped in
rgrigsby Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Hmm with my old carb fuel tank the gauge was pretty much spot on, I could almost run it out completly and get 34l's in quite regularly. My newer injection tank and sender is hopeless, it gets down to half way between the last quarter and empty and stops. At that point I've probably got 10l left! Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
Pierson Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Blimey, when I first read this: I have had my 7. 87 Xflow for aroudn7 years and surprisingly not yet run out of petrol. ...I thought that you must have an ENORMOUS fuel tank..... Pierson
Slipper man Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Am I the only person that takes a spare can with him when he gets a new car and lets it run out so that I know when the car is really empty? IIRC 33l was what I could get in.
anthony1956 Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 I got 35 litres in my 1987 BDR the other day.. has a ten gallon tank as an optional extra.
