ben7 Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Hi I have an engine that was mapped in another car, presently fitted in mine. I have reset the throttle pot position to suit my accelerator pedal position, however I now have a problem. Closed throttle position was previously '81' the new setting is '107' (engine off, 111 at cold idle). I have therefore adjusted the idle control and fuel on overrun settings (currently switched off) to suit, as per the instructions in the manual. I now find that when I'm driving and reach a junction, press the clutch and stop, the rpm drops right off to say 4/500 rpm before the ecu catches it to bring it back to normal idle. Whilst the engine doesn't actually stall, it is still a little disconcerting. Any ideas on what I need to change (or have done wrong )? Thanks, Ben
Tyrone Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Are you sure you're not just a crap driver, you have had problems pulling away before and you blamed it on the clutch. ben7 Posted October 23, 2007 Author Posted October 23, 2007 Just located Oilyhand's guide in 7FAQ which answers my questions . Looks like I have a bit of work to do. Ben
Peter Carmichael Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Why is there any difference between your 107 and 111 closed throttle positions? There should be no difference at all. This points to an underlying fault. The throttle pot calibration *must* have nothing to do with the accelerator pedal position. The cable must be slack at closed throttle. You don't stand a chance of getting reasonable idling until you sort this out. If the same throttle pot on the same engine was previously calibrated at 81, how come it now reads 111?
ben7 Posted October 23, 2007 Author Posted October 23, 2007 humm, Peter, now you have me thinking. The 107 figure was set with the engine switched off so that I could set the WOT position as well (running through the setup on the emerald). With the engine running, the reading is 111. I presumed that this was because the engine was running, thus being fueled, hence the slightly higher number, even though the throttle (pedal) was still closed. I understood that the TP setup programme on the emerald was to establish how the pedal position related to the TP position, and in turn the vaious speed sites within the map. Having said all of that however, it is the same TP, so your right - closed throttle should be the same reading shouldn't it *confused*
Jason Plato Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 yes it should be the same on or off - throttle pot position is determined by the butterfly stop even if the cable wasnt connected. Maybe the throttle pot sensor is moving or is buggared I would check the stop , the throttle body ballance and then the pot itself and retry here is C7 TOP Taffia rear gunner
