Drove in this morning - roof down off course 😬, got out of car and noticed one of the clip things that hold the exhaust cover has snapped off. The most probable cause is the speed humps at work.

Can I just replace the clip thing or does this mean I have to get a new cover?

If its the heat shield you mean, they are just long jubilee clips that slide through a channel in the guard.

Mine has three on the can and two on the cat in total. The use of zinc coated steel at high temps actually promotes corrosion in the steel of the clip. The closer to the cat/manifold, the worse the condition of the clips is likely to be. Don't assume any of them will undo if they have been on a while.

Can buy stainless jubilee clips on line very easily.

Assume it isn't the spot-weld that holds the mounting saddles onto the heat shield ?

I was having problems with my exhaust grounding - either the middle of the can on full width speed bumps, or the end of the exit spout in certain conditions. The exhaust mounting bracket from the side panel of the car was very much angled downwards, so I removed it, heated it up and made it into a 90-degree bracket. Loosened the front exhaust clamp, and turned it slightly, which has raised it that vital bit ! Made sure exit pipe still points slightly downwards, so rain won't run in when standing !

Just spoke to maintenance at work and they went "oh yeah we got some of those lying about - help yourself". So I now have a brand new jubilie clip which I just need to fit before going home.

SM25T I will have a look to see if it is posible to raise the exhaust up a fraction at the weekend when I have a bit more time.

Thanks for the info guys.
