I'm a bit confused about the rubber and nylon fuel pipe fitting. This is to do with the low pressure fuel return and the Rover build manual talks about a 'flexible rubber fuel hose'. I think I have one of these (not already fitted), but it is about 1m in length. Is the purpose of this rubber pipe to protect the nylon fuel pipe? The rubber pipe seems very large in length for the required job, so wanted to check prior to cutting it.

Cheers,

You have high pressure fuel coming in from the tank/pump at the rear of the car via the brass fitting just underneath the scuttle in the engine bay. A short hose (Rover part) then takes this fuel into the fuel rail where the pressure is regulated by the fuel pressure regulator (a circular type thing) at the end of the rail. Excess fuel is then carried away by a piece of fuel hose (that you need to fit) to a nylon piece of hose that is already attached to the chassis and takes the excess low pressure fuel back to the tank.

So yes, you need to cut the fuel hose piece you have so that it runs from the output of the fuel rail to the pre-fitted nylon hose. From memory, about 18-24 inches is the sort of length needed.

You also use a piece of 'fuel' hose for the coolant expansion tank by the way.

Okay - thanks. I'll look into that.

Also, the point about reusing the left over fuel pipe for the expansion bottle conneciton is very useful as I thought I had a shortage here.
