New Cat Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 The lighting on my car was done in a rather cowboy fashion (not by me I hasten to add!) which is now causing numerous problems with indicators and front and rear lights generally. One of the connectors to one of the front indicators has broken completely and needs replacing. I've noticed that Caterham's own connectors do not appear to be of very high quality, do any of you know of any higher quality alternatives? I need connectors for the front indicators and some plugs for the rear light blocks (currently using those snap off plastic blocks covered in insulating tape ) Thanks, Jon 1994 1.7 Supersprint De-dion X-Flow. Peter Carmichael Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 The standard econoseal connectors are fit for the job. The usual suppliers such as polevolt can fix you up with what you need. Take advice on the proper crimp tool to do the job properly.
JACK FLASH Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I can agree on that. Recently I changed all the connectors on the front end of my car (lights, indicators, ...) with the standard modern male - female connectors. To get a perfect electrical connection, I soldered the wires in the connectors before using the crimping tool. Afterwards an extra layer of heat schrinking isolation on the connection gives everlasting protection.
j passfield Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Use old fashioned crimp or solder type bullets and connectors, use the correct tool to join together and you won't have anymore problems, will also give you the most professional looking result. Check out the website of vehicle Wiring Products, they do a very good postal service.
metal mickey Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Polevolt.co.uk As PC says pay extra and use the correct crimping tools.
