Manxseven Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 I have somebody coming over at the weekend to look at my Caterham Chassis and parts I have for sale with a view to doing a swap for a Pilbeam MP64 fitted with a 220bhp Zetec. The only downer is that the Pilbeam was built for the Renault series, so is fitted with an Espace gearbox ☹️ Pilbeam is here Anyone got any views on this type of gearbox Cheers, Simon
Irrelevant Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Might sound sh1te but FWD Renault boxes have been used for donkey's ages in single seaters. Infact, isn't one of the Hewlands derived from a really old Renault gearbox? No idea exactly how good or bad a heavy duty Espace box is though - but I'd have thought fine for a car like that.
andy oliver Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 You can't change the ratios and it has synchromesh.
Mick Day Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 History of Hewland gearboxes here. No mention of Renault but plenty mention of VW.
