My first post and certainly not along the lines that I would have ever wished for.

Came home yesterday to find that we had been burgled. Normal electrical stuff gone that I would have expected but the s0ds have nicked the car keys as well. Left the cars ... just took the keys.

So what will need replacing to get the seven going again? It's an R300 with a K series engine that was built late last year. Apart from securing the car I'm booked on the Brands day next week and it would really add insult to injury if I couldn't go on that.

Whilst we're on the subject if someone knows the answer to the same question for an old Porsche 964 and a mk IV golf that would be handy too.

Thanks in advance

For the 964, replacement of the barrels for door handles, isnt too bad a job. If you ring an indie they will be able to help you source new locks with keys. Then's its probably an hour each side. Esp. if you have the Bentley manual on how to do this. If you have an alarm in the mix too, it becomes a lot harder. Worth replacing the plastic door skins rather than trying to keep them if you attempt this.

Does the Car have a Steering lock? either way you are going to need to replace the ignition barrel which is easy if the 'shear' bolts haven't been sheared.

If it doesn't have Steering lock you can 'hot wire it for Brands' if a new lock is not available immediatelty, if it does have one you'll need to remove the ignition switch assembly and then hotwire it

Duncan, I have a spare Caterham ignition barrel/steering lock with keys somewhere in my garage if you want it? I bought it recently as a spare but probably unlikely to ever need it! Let me know if it's of use?

Dont know about lock & key replacements but Id definately disable the cars somehow! The 7 is easy as you can just hide the battery or take out the fuse for the fuel pump, not sure about the others though.

Cheers guys

Seven does have a steering lock I believe but it's untouched. Is that all that needs doing? I must admit my concern is that the immobiliser / keys are tied in to the ecu. If it's just the steering lock / barrel then that doesn't sound too bad.

The 964 has a PA 2000 alarm / immobiliser on it. I'm expecting to get my pants taken down on that one. Initial problem though is going to be getting into the thing.

Stu - thanks for the offer. Dartford's quite a bit closer than Cheshire though and I'd like to get this sorted out today really as I don't want any of the cars disappearing tonight.

Get the Porker and 7 towed / trailered to a local friend who can look after them for a few days, give you time to sort things out before the scumbags come back for them. I take it there weren't any house keys on any of these sets?

The immobiliser and the ECU are matched up - so if you have not got a plipper you have a real issue! Sorry. Perhaps time to get an Emerald which you can match up to any immobiliser, rather than looking for a complete set?

I am sure others know more than me about this, but I believe that getting just a new plipper is on the awkward side...

They tried to make me go to Gatwick, I said No, No No

Almost there so should be able to have some fun next week.

Have needed new aero filler cap, steering lock, immobiliser and the ecu recoded to match. Filler cap & steering lock are done and CC are sending out the immobiliser & recoded ecu so I should be able to get it running tomorrow.

There have been some generous offers of help on here for which I'm very grateful. In the end I took up an offer from CC and I'm glad I did as the work to change the steering lock was way beyond my experience. The shear bolts had, in fact, been broken off so Rob from CC had to take the top of the steering column out. Not a difficult job on an Arch chassis, so he said, but to do it on my Caged car he had to lift up the scuttle (?) panel to get it out. For a beginner like me it looked pretty complicated and I'm not sure I would have felt too comfortable drilling rivets out, and the like, on my pride & joy. I really can't thank the guys at CC enough for coming to the rescue.

I'm not sure it's necessarily a good thing but there are only two K-Series R300s on a Caged chassis. I have the one for "slender" people and there's an SV back at the factory.

Thanks

I'll be the orange car with carbon wings going very slowly on the novice group.

Never done the GP circuit before. I've done the Indy circuit but both times were on Porsche club days.

I've got to go to the factory first to get the scuttle panel riveted & bonded properly so I could be a bit tired as well.

Just trying to get the excuses in early.
