Charlie XGO Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 I am sorting out the Electrics on a R400 2.0litre build and the guide says attach the Black Earth lead to the outermost bolt of bell housing to engine (and then to battery). firtsly, I do not think I have the correct lead as the kit included 2 black leads, both short. One is attached to the chassis under the front left engine mounting block and than to the engine, via one of the bolts attaching the atlernator bracket to the engine. The other one is too short to make it from the Battery earth lead to just about anything. However, assuming I have can source the correct lead, which bolt would you suggest is "outermost"..some of the bolts attaching the bell housing to the engine are effectively "inset" so a lead would corrupt that set up, clearly not one of those. thanks in advance...making progress on the build!
BAZZA Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 I had this problem with my build, good to see C.C learn from their mistakes.I know I earthed it to somewhere else but I think they sent me a longer lead as well. Can check tonight if that will help.
Gasmaninaseven Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Charlie, I'll have a look on mine this evening to see what we did- it was easy, but initially complicated by being sent the wrong leads. Probably simpler as there was no manual to confuse the issue as well Neil Build pictures here Guantanamo Bay Orange SUPERLIGHT R400......
BAZZA Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Hi Charlie, checked my lead, I bolted it to th starter motor bolt, it was a replacement lead supplied by C.C. as the original was too short. The lead is 650mm long and the part number is 71533, hope that helps Barry R400 Duratec No. 001
Gasmaninaseven Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Charlie, The battery-to-bellhousing lead runs under the air filter, heater hoses (if applicable), stat-housing on the back of the head and attaches to the large cap head bolt on the driver's side of the car. This is one of the two capheads at the top of the bellhousing, attaching it to the block. I can't tell you the part number of the lead, but Sean in shortages ( busy man!) is familiar with it. Cheers, Neil Build pictures here Guantanamo Bay Orange SUPERLIGHT R400......
Charlie XGO Posted September 18, 2007 Author Posted September 18, 2007 Neil and Bazza, thank you very much for your help! I will ask Sean for the correct part and mount it to either the starter motor bolt of the bell housing bolt. Sean knows me by now! Neil, I really like your build pics! I had a look through...I think it will prove helpful as I complete my work. Mine is also an '07 R400 in Lambo Orange. Mine is an SV however...How you got the engine in a normal one, I will never know!! very tight fit...I also decided to remove the alternator...no way without. To make things slightly trickier in the heat of the moment, I was lowering the engine and could not understand how the air intake would fit over the battery...CC had, unfortunately mounted my battery on the lower shelf, (where the ECU mounts),...anyway, removed that too! best regards....
