Griff Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Some questions for those who've done this more often than me.... It's a 2003 car with fixed diagonals so space is tight. The old engine came out with dry sump pump attached but I had to remove the alternator, n/s engine mounting bracket and a few other bits then rotate the block to about 45° nose up to just about squeeze it out after a few grazed knuckles and Anglo Saxon expletives 😳 Reading the archives it seems others find it possible to remove/refit the engine with most of the ancillaries fitted - so what am I doing that's making the task so difficult? I'm wondering if I've missed a fundamental principle or whether space really is that tight with the fixed diagonals The question is can the engine go in/out with alternator, brackets, dry sump pump? Or which of these can only be installed in-situ? Thanks, Mike
stephen grant Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Griff - FWIW, I have fixed diagonals and I have managed to take the engine out with the alternator attached (although I did slacken it off in the bracket). I removed one engine mounting bracket in situ (I think it was the inlet side) and that gave me enough room. I'm wet sumped though and, as always with these things, I think it so much depends on exactly how your engine bay is laid out... stephen
Griff Posted September 11, 2007 Author Posted September 11, 2007 Thanks Stephen. In hindsight I should probably have removed the dry sump pump and inlet side engine mount as it looks the easier side to re-fit with the engine back in place.
