Trouble selecting first gear

Hi Brent . Took time last night to take the tunnel off and what do I find but the rear gear lever remote mounting had become unthreaded and all floating around how I had managed to drive it like that was a miracle . No wonder it felt loose . The foldable tabs seem to secure down to nothing to arrest the part unscrewing so wired it up through a few of the opened up tap gaps and hope that will stop it unscrewing in the future . Do the tabs fold down or up on this part as it puzzled me why they serve no use fol *wavey*ded down?

Tab washers generally fold upwards onto one of the flats on a nut to stop it turning.

Wiring has the same result, as will a star washer.

I can't recall exactly what the tabs lock onto now, it's been a while since I had my 4 speed. No point folding them up as there is nothing to lock on.

 

Try mailing Crudders, he has recently refitted his gear lever on a 4 speed box so may well remember.

A thing of beauty can not be hurried and it really isn't very far away now. It's received a lot of TLC and is all the better for that. It will be ready soon and revealed to an admiring public at the appropriate time.
