NevDyson Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 The rebuild is now gaining momentum, with the Chassis sat in Bruces workshop, and AMMO giving excellant advice on the Duratec (massive thumbs up to both Bruce and AMMO for excellant advice and discussion) So fuel tank !!!! I am going to change it for an injection model rather than fitting an external swirl pot, and seem to remember some very satisfied customers that have fitted Andy Wiltshire tanks. I am considering fitting a long range tank, but want to know which fuel pump to go for 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔. I want to have it fitted internally into the tank, which I think Andy has done in the past with differant types of pumps. What are other Duratec convertee's using ????? Q361 ANJ here
rgrigsby Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 I'm using the Caterham uprated "R500" fuel pump, I think it's the one of a Rover 220 Turbo. Caterham have a custom mount that fits it in the side of the tank. Not cheap though.... Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
NevDyson Posted September 1, 2007 Author Posted September 1, 2007 Nothing is ever cheap on Sevens is it 🤔 🤔 🤔 Thanks for the response...... Q361 ANJ here
Jason Plato Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 R500 pump too here is C7 TOP Taffia rear gunner
NevDyson Posted September 1, 2007 Author Posted September 1, 2007 I wonder if i would be better ordering the pump from Rover then? And the mount only from Caterham? Q361 ANJ here
mav Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 you can try roverlink.co.uk they will also give you a club discount. They do mail order. check and see if they are cheaper than Caterham Parts
millsn Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 I'd be interested to know the cost of the bits once you know. Similar dilemma, different engine
simonbell Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 If you are going for big power then you need the uprated one.......I'm running the std one but I'll probably have to replace it at some point. Simon Bell - Caterham 7 Duratec R I`ve seen the future.....and it`s powered by duratec Check out the website here
rgrigsby Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 That's the fun part you can buy just the mount from caterham, only the mount including the std pump, you then have to buy the uprated pump seperatly. Hence I have a brand new unused std pump sitting in the garage! That's the reason it works out so expensive. Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
mav Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 In that case it may be more cost effective to enquire about the pump / sender combo they fit to the CSR, and possibly the sigma cars then, as that is an all in one top of the tank fitting...
rgrigsby Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 Does sound like a plan, just need to confirm the CSR pump fits in a standard sized tank as the CSR tank definetly won't fit in a standard chassis. Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
millsn Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 SO to what power level will a Rover 220 turbo fuel pump get you versus an R500 caterham 'uprated' version?
rgrigsby Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 I think the Rover 220 Turbo is the R500 uprated pump... mines running find on a 260 Duratec. Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
NevDyson Posted September 3, 2007 Author Posted September 3, 2007 So maybe I would be better getting Andy Wiltshire to determine which pump. From what I have read in previous posts he can prety much make what you need, and I understand he has done some bespoke work for some of the BEC's with pumps being supplied by the customer. I only intend running AMMO's 215 spec Engine, but as always there may well be some upgrades at a later date. 😳 😳 Cheers for the replies ..... Q361 ANJ here
I.Mupferit Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 This is something I will be needing to do over the winter. I presume the pump is only removable with the tank out, is that the case? (SV) Brent 2.3 DURATEC SV Reassuringly Expensive R 417.39 😬
dannylt Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I have the uprated pump in my Duratec and having a few fuel pressure issues. Sustained full throttle causes the occasional fuel pressure alarm. Could just be a tired pump or other issue though, and only seems to happen at Spa.
metal mickey Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Danny, does the low pressure only occur on long r/h bends 🤔
dannylt Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 You're thinking it's surge? It definitely occurred up Kemmel straight, but the other places could possibly have been right handers, but I certainly can't be sure. Should have data logging!
Dobuy Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Brent, I changed to the R500 pump (thanks Mic) while the tank was still in the car, easy job, 1-2 hours max
