Petrolhead Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 When traveling at 70 and I relax my grip on the steering wheel the car steers noticably to the left. I have checked that the left brakes are not binding and also checked tyre pressures are even. I have also checked the tracking and its spot on parallel. Could the be the rack or maybe something to do with the rear end? My rack displays some wear ie needed a small amout of adjustment to get rid of a bit of play in the straight ahead position. On axle stands it only seem a little tighter on full lock right but not left if that makes sence. I did contact Titan after reading prevoius posts about member getting their rack serviced by them but was told I had to go through Caterham. Did I speak to the wrong person or have they recently tightened their policy? R5 no 65 😬
Petrolhead Posted August 29, 2007 Author Posted August 29, 2007 Crumbs that was quick Peter Camber and castor were checked and setup about 6 months ago. If I remember I think camber was set to about 1.5deg neg R5 no 65 😬 Edited by - Petrolhead on 30 Aug 2007 00:25:41
shn7 Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Or did he mean the camber of the road and that the car is simply running down hill. Steve. Sussex (West) AO Not forgetting Percy the Polar Bear

Petrolhead Posted August 30, 2007 Author Posted August 30, 2007 Not road camber as it happens on all roads R5 no 65 😬
Sheds Moderator Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Could be camber or castor error. If you have kerbed it either setting could be out - I know I have done this to cars in the past. Get a 3 angle geometry, all 4 wheels, and you will know.
Alex Wong1697456877 Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 I found that after playing Curborough for a day, my car pulled to the left. I think this was due to the fifferent wear patterns I was getting from the layout of the circuit. The wheel cambers were ok and the brakes were fine. Once I put my road tyres back on, it disappeared.
Petrolhead Posted August 30, 2007 Author Posted August 30, 2007 Thanks for idea Alex, I will swat the wheels over to see if that changes anything R5 no 65 😬
RiF Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Is there a good book around on setting up steering and what happen when each setting is out? My Toyota has been re tracked 3 times and still pulls to the left. I now have tracking equipment but do not know how best to adjust. I gather you can improve this pulling. The car is LHD and was last tracked with me sitting inside and that made quite a difference. I too have a problem with the 7 pulling to the left. I have set it up to the spec (Freestyle) and all is well with the handling now but it never use to pull. Have not had time toplay but would like more info before trying. I have set camber, caster, etc. The difference between 1 degree toe in to toe out was tremendous. Peter Carmichael Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 My one word reply was intentionally ambiguous... Now getting back to a diagnosis. For a pull to one side, camber settings are a likely culprit. Also you can have problems with tyres with different tread patterns. Also it could be the centralisation of the diff (shims)/ A-frame. As Alex mentions, wear patterns on the tyres can also cause this. I normally find it easiest to use camber to balance this up having checked that none of the other parameters are massively out of whack.

Peter Carmichael Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 For the case of pulling to the left I'd apply a little more neg camber to the left or a little less neg to the right.

Petrolhead Posted September 3, 2007 Author Posted September 3, 2007 Sorted Swapped the wheels over and its ok now. Also did a trackday on a different set of wheels and all is OK Cheers for the help R5 no 65 😬
