DSL Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Off to the dyno on thursday with my DVA built 1.9k Been running it in on the same oil I use in the Hayabusa & Suzuki k6 engines which rev to circa 12,000rpm. Both of these were run in on the dyno using it. Its a 20-50w Kendall GT1 high performance mineral oil, was wondering if there is any reason why that would not be suitable for keeping in the engine for dyno day The only thing I can think of, is it will not have such a high temperature safe zone
Rob Walker Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Darren, 20W50 is far too thick an oil for your K be it mineral or synth. I would get that out ASAP and use something like 5W 40 silkolene pro S. Rob
paulyb Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Glad to hear you've got it all back together again after all the problems Darren. Good luck with the dyno
Jason Plato Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 I imagine that oil is a fairly good spec for the bike engines. I just hope it was sufficient to prevent bore glazing during running in. The other suitable alternative in addition to Robs top spec choice - which is easier to get hold of would be Halfords 5w40 synth (in the silver can). dave here is C7 TOP Taffia rear gunner
DSL Posted August 28, 2007 Author Posted August 28, 2007 Ran three bike engines in on it with no problems, got to admit I don't realy subcribe to running in in the conventional sense. Always just warm um up fully then dont quite use full throttle & but drive it fairly hard, thus hopefully avoiding the bore glazing issue Rob you are right about it being thick when cold, but as its the middle of summer & warmish, also had oily's blessing to use it Was more concerned with it overheating on the dyno day, I have some silkolene pro-s in the garage to run it on normaly after the breakin period, just wondering if it was worth a change to that before dyno day at which point it will have done approx 300 miles on the mineral oil
DSL Posted August 28, 2007 Author Posted August 28, 2007 Dave, the kendall GT1 oil is not actualy a bike specific oil but was was recommended by Mistral Performance which he rates highly , as it holds up good pressure when hot & does not cause the clutch to slip
rgrigsby Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Not quite the same but my Duratec was dynoed on mineral oil, in fact it actually hadn't run at all until it got to Emerald as there was a hiccup with the loom vs ECU compatibilty! Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
Mark Durrant Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Darren Richard Andersons 1.9K was run in on Steve Greenald's rolling road with mineral oil and it made good power too Mark D Comp Sec
DSL Posted August 28, 2007 Author Posted August 28, 2007 Thanks guys, shall leave that in for the dyno then Mark, what sort of power & torque did Richie's engine make Or is he keeping it under his hat, before roundly spanking everyone in next years championship 😬
DSL Posted August 28, 2007 Author Posted August 28, 2007 Cheers Paul Did you get yours built elsewhere in the end
paulyb Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Yes - mine's back in now and waiting for me to find the time to MOT, run in and then get properly mapped, hopefully leaving a little sunshine for me to enjoy it
DSL Posted August 28, 2007 Author Posted August 28, 2007 Glad to hear its sorted too Paul Indian summer anyone
