A couple of people have told me that this is not the ST170 engine as it only puts out about 160BHP

Anyone help me with the spec on this engine please?

The ST170 engine looks a bit different to a regular zetec, this is the USA Caterham instalation here . If the cam cover is sort of lumpy and silver, then it is an st170 zetec, if smooth and black then probably a Focus spec zetec. Also the St170 has vvt that you would have to control in some way.

It is smooth and black.

Why do they call the Focus model the ST170, does this relate to the BHP?

I think it refers to the designed output in the focus. It is the American zetec bottom end with a Cosworth head, and should do around 190 with throttle bodies and a cat free exhaust. It has VVT and variable intake as standard which makes controlling it a bit tricky. Lots of the Raceline stuff bolts straight on, and Caterham USA can sell you a bell housing and mounts that put it straight into a series 3 chassis.

Not that i've looked into this or anything 😬

I have done the conversion from Raceline, brilliant results, I just wanted to know some more about the engine.

Why not ask Peter McEwen, he will know all about it (especially as he supplied it) and you won't find a better authority on the subject.

Due to the fact they are closed all weekend and they are very busy I tried the power of Blat Chat.
