Phil Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 A couple of people have told me that this is not the ST170 engine as it only puts out about 160BHP Anyone help me with the spec on this engine please? Helping and encouraging others rather than putting them down.
Molecular--Bob Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 The ST170 engine looks a bit different to a regular zetec, this is the USA Caterham instalation here . If the cam cover is sort of lumpy and silver, then it is an st170 zetec, if smooth and black then probably a Focus spec zetec. Also the St170 has vvt that you would have to control in some way. Phil Posted August 26, 2007 Author Posted August 26, 2007 It is smooth and black. Why do they call the Focus model the ST170, does this relate to the BHP? Helping and encouraging others rather than putting them down.
Molecular--Bob Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I think it refers to the designed output in the focus. It is the American zetec bottom end with a Cosworth head, and should do around 190 with throttle bodies and a cat free exhaust. It has VVT and variable intake as standard which makes controlling it a bit tricky. Lots of the Raceline stuff bolts straight on, and Caterham USA can sell you a bell housing and mounts that put it straight into a series 3 chassis. Not that i've looked into this or anything 😬
Phil Posted August 26, 2007 Author Posted August 26, 2007 I have done the conversion from Raceline, brilliant results, I just wanted to know some more about the engine. Helping and encouraging others rather than putting them down.
I.Mupferit Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Why not ask Peter McEwen, he will know all about it (especially as he supplied it) and you won't find a better authority on the subject. Brent 2.3 DURATEC SV Reassuringly Expensive R 417.39 😬
Phil Posted August 28, 2007 Author Posted August 28, 2007 Brent Due to the fact they are closed all weekend and they are very busy I tried the power of Blat Chat. Helping and encouraging others rather than putting them down.
johnny Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Phil--changing the subject, did you move your steering wheel closer to the dash? john (hpc)
