My Seven is a 10yr old 1.6k on a 3.5inch Silencer and its very loud.

I want to do some track days but I've not got a chance with this can . I would like a Raceco as they are such a fab bit of kit but at £450+Vat it blows the very limited budget .

I've been given an old 5" silencer but thats cracked and needs welding and modifying to fit my collector but I am not sure how much quieter it would be

I've done the Archive trawl and can see lots of talk on High Tune engines but not on humble super sports.

I would like to upgrade to a 1.8 but I've been told the exhaust would strangle any improvements I might gain etc. I cant see any use in moving to 1.8 if I cant use it on track or upset the people I am overtaking

Thnaks

Would I be right in assuming you have a the 4-1 manifold under the bonnet and a single pipe coming through the side to the exhaust? If so then I don't think there are many cheap options (forperformance) because you need to change to longer primaries (4-1 or 4-2-1) to get any benefit (it is worth doing though). Cheapest way to get the noise back down for trackdays is to look for a second hand standard exhaust (could try calling Dave at Powerspeed he had a few he had removed last time I was there), but for performance you really need to spend some money on primaries and a decent silencer I'm afraid.

I did this and bought second hand. I bought a CC 4-2-1 with a big silencer for £550 IIRC. It was quite new and had been polished too. I fitted it and the car improved in torque and power 😬 by quite a bit (although my head has had some work by DVA and it is VVC). It is much quieter now and sounds a lot nicer in my opinion. Whilst it was expensive I can be confident that it will not need replacing and when it starts to get noisy I will cut the silencer up and refill it etc as per others modifications.

If it's of any help, I'll be posting a CC silencer in the for sale section in the next couple of weeks. It's off my K-engined SLR so is LH and has a 2.25" inlet. Not sure of the body diameter.

Nick, yes they are. You need to have the services of a welder. Now I'm sure there is a man who can weld stainless in your company, given your job, so the trick is to slice off the end and weld on a sleeve and brackets that will allow you to refix the end using screws. Voila, one repackable silencer. *cool*

I have one of silencers from car buildrs solution sitting in my work shop. Its a 6". I have not fitted it so can not commetn on noise level but it is well made and fairly cheap, so proably worth the money. But be aware it is quite heavy, so the safe solution could be to supprt it by two rubber mounts one in the rear and one in the front of the silencer body. Oh and by the way when you buy the silencer from car builder solutions it comes with only a short entry pipe so it will probaly need an additional piece of pipe welded on.

Hope this makes sence.

Cheers
