Right after putting in a C/F dash board (after reading many posts on best ways to do it) I now have some slight problems with switches.

2 problems: lights on switches and heater fan not working.

The heater fan not working might have something to do with me extending the wires and I think that I might not have a live connection (Something I can check and fix). Should the fan run even when the engine is cold? If not then I will need to check once I have taken the car out for a spin.

The lights on the switches is the one that has stumped me now I understand that the lights blow and have worked out which ones are not working now can I change the bulbs or do I have to buy new switches (not a problem if I need to buy new switches as the ones I have are a bit sunburnt)?

Now for the really really big problem:

Wired up as before. Basically when I removed a switch I plug the corresponding wires back into the switch, when I put them back in I did the same one at a time. When I came to test everything it all seemed OK but here is the problem:

When the lights are on the Fan heater Switch and Hazard switch bulb's are alight when I flick the hazard switch to the on position then the bulb in the fog light switch flashes.

OK so I have a wire wrong some where go to the manual and check - are that will be the problem I have the wires the wrong way round. Swap the Red/White cable with the Green/Purple cable and now get:

When the lights are on the Fan heater Switch and Fog light switch bulb's are alight when I flick the hazard switch to the on position the hazard light switch flashes works fine.

My understanding was that the Hazard switch is alight when the lights are on and flash when the hazards are on. The fog light switch is only alight when the fog lights are on and should never flash. Now I know the actions of the switches are fine (well with the exception of the Fan heater switch) as I have tested them.

Any help will be much appreciated. And if you think that it might be a bad earth where do I start looking?

OK - let me explain what my car does. The hazard switch only flashed when the hazards are activated - the switch remains dark when its in the off position regardless of the side or headlights being on.

The fog light switch illumination also only comes on when the fog lights are on with the switch remaining dark with side or headlights on. On my car the fog lights (and the fog switch illumination) only come on with the headlights on. With sidelights only the fog lights and the switch are off.

I hope that helps!

Thanks Colin. After much hanging upside down and looking at the so call wiring diagram it looks like that the fog light switch bulb was going to always be on when the lights are on (still trying to work out why it work OK before I messed about with it even though it is not wire the same way). Found a more up to date version of the wiring diagram and the fog light switch bulb is wired differently - so a bit of tinkering and I have now got the same settings as you and hopefully most other people.

On the case of the Fan not working I have traced it to me going a bit OTT with the sealant which is stopping the fan from turning - doh! (Where is the Homer smiley?).

I have also had a long think about it and I think I will just order some new switches to replace the sunburnt ones rather that change the bulbs.
