Phil Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 What size, offset and PCD are the steel wheels used on the Lotus Cortina Mk1 Has anyone used them on a 7? Helping and encouraging others rather than putting them down.
I.Mupferit Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 IIRC mine were 5.5J x 13 and the stud pcd was as the 7 (De dion & Escort axle models only) Back in the 60's, 5.5J was considered to be a very wide rim which when you consider that the average family saloon car only had 3.5" rims, was probably true. The first mod any serious boy racer did to his Anglia or Cortina back then was to fit those hugely wide 5.5" rims followed by lowering blocks on the rear leaf springs and shortened front springs. 😬 I have no idea what the offset was though. Well it was 35 years ago when I sold mine (and regretted it ever since, especially when you see what they are worth now ☹️) Would you believe, I sold mine for £295 and thought I had done well to get that at the time. Martyn Heesom Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Series 3 and 4 Lotus sevens were fitted with these wheels (e.g. here). I think that the offset was 19mm; I can check this tonight if you want. Martyn
S47zz Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Used on my S4 till recently dont know the offset but measured form the inner tyre well on the rim to the centre mount distnce is 3"[75mm] They are lighter than most alloys of the same dimensions *thumbup* 😬
Martyn Heesom Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 The offset for the 1969 steel wheels (LP881) is 17mm. The one I weighted is 6.15 kg. This compares with the Dunlop alloys (LP924) I have fitted that have an offset of 10mm, and weigh 5.85 kg. The steel wheels I have are obviously too new to have been on a Mk1 Lotus Cortina; presumably they were off a Mk2. Edited by - Martyn Heesom on 15 Aug 2007 20:39:38
Phil Posted August 15, 2007 Author Posted August 15, 2007 I use the R300/R400 15 inch 10 spoke wheels and as I was thinking of getting some 13 inch wheels, why not the Lotus rims, they would complement my car as the colour is very much like the original police car blue, did not know they were expensive. They do look good on the car in the link. Helping and encouraging others rather than putting them down.
S47zz Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Martyn There were at least different 2 types of Lotus steels - yours are the Heavier ones, my Lotus steeels weigh 5,6Kgs each - could be due to slight rusting 😬
I.Mupferit Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Phil, if you are looking to sell your 15" rims I could be interested so would you mind giving me first shout please if they aren't already spoken for. Brent 2.3 DURATEC SV Reassuringly Expensive R 417.39 😬
andy couchman Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 One of the useless facts I recall from my days as a tyre fitter in the late 1960-s (!) is that the code for these Dunlop wheels is LP881 or LP918 (that may be Cooper S wheels). Mind you, that was a very long time ago so I can't guarantee that the memory's infallible... Andy
Phil Posted August 16, 2007 Author Posted August 16, 2007 Sorry Brent, I have no intention of selling my 15 inch rims, just wanted to find out what all the fuss was about 13 inch wheels. Helping and encouraging others rather than putting them down.
I.Mupferit Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Oh well, worth a try. Brent 2.3 DURATEC SV Reassuringly Expensive R 417.39 😬
