Out for a quick blat this afternoon , noticed oil pressure over 8 bar!!!

Shortly after a lot of loud squeeling noises!

Investigated took off nose cone etc and horrified to see that the bracket attaching alternator to the block had sheared in TWO!! places.

Managed to limp home and on looking closer I have noticed that thelower adjustment bracket is also fractured .

I think that this was caused by the rear bolt on the alternator falling out at an earlier stage as it is now missing

Anyway I wondered if these are available car is a 1996 1400 ss and the fittings shown on C/C,s wbsite are very definately different *confused*

Also is the replacement something I could tackle fairly easily without taking off primaries and/or top hoses etc

Thanks.

John.

Why did the oil pressure rise? How did you limp home?

My alt rear lug sheared off on track and vibrated the poor alternator to a non charging wreck. The belt stayed on so my dry sump belt also stayed on *thumbup*

Is it just the alternator part of the bracket that's gone?

fairly easily without taking off primaries

Unless you've got a very small alternator like the Brise unit you can't ....

Another good reason to shave off 2 kgs from your car!

Steve

The oil pressure gauge went full scale because as the alternator dropped it caused the sender to short out *eek*

Engine seems fine and only about 7 miles from home at the time *thumbup*

The casting has broken just below the forwrd lug attach and lower down also

the bottom bracket has also broken just past the bolt hole where it attaches to the block.

I am hoping to be able to replace the brackets without disturbing too much else, the car has no appollo tank

I need to know where i can obtain repacement bits are they Rover or C/C

Thanks

John.
