Wiper switch to wipe just once?

Made a monkey. Posted this on "For Sale" when of course I should've posted here ... anyway:

Well, like you have in most cars. I think newer 7s do too? A switch that can just be flicked to wipe once, or perhaps a really low speed, periodical wiper rate. My own switch has two speeds and I find that in light drizzles the slower mode is still too fast, so I end up flicking it back and forth, which I guess the switch might not like and is just a bit awkward. I wonder if it would be easy with my numpty skills to retrofit something to do just a single wipe or to have one of those that only periodically wipe the screen?

I can naturally switch once to slow and then back, and they'll wipe once. I'm not sure if that's what you meant? I'm concerned how much damage that is doing to the switch if I keep doing it, and it's not quite as nice as just touching something briefly to do a single wipe.

Or maybe I misunderstood you?

And really this isn't a major issue at all, but I wondered if there were any simple upgrades here or what others have.

Kristoff, what Graeme is trying to tell you is that if you turn the wipers on and then off before one cycle is complete they will work as intermittent wipers, cycling once every 3 or 4 seconds, to stop them you must repaet the process, i.e swithc on then off.

All later- post 1994 ish cars have this feature,

Believe they stopped it (intermittent function) soon after starting it !!

Certainly gone by my 2002 car !

Has been other threads on this point !

Must be easy to fit a momentary switch, like headlamp flasher, to squirt some volts to wiper motor, which will complete one cycle then stop. So simple - why didn't we do this before ?? Best to buy a CC flasher switch I guess, for uniformity ! Will proceed forthwith !

elie, thanks for the tip, although I immediately felt waves of my newbieness coming in *smile* That would probably be the best system, although I can see it requiring a bit more work.

traveller, if you do that, could you post pics? at least let us know if it works fine. I assume you'd just drill a hole in for the switch and wire it up and hey presto ...

I'd be sure to test the function with any extra switch before drilling holes in your dash. I think it is a bit more complicated than just providing a momentary switch - the wipers need power all the time to allow them to 'park' in the right place.

On cars with the intermittent wipe, you have a Wiper Control box sited near the fuse box under the dash.

caterham used to do an add on unit which plugged between the wiring loom and the wiper motor, it was a lucas unit and cost about £15, I fitted one to my 1990 car,

Interesting to read that the intermittant wipe mode that I have on my car was discontinued on later models I wonder why .

Setok, it's a rather simple modification but you won't have the fast wiper speed anymore witch is pretty useless IMHO.

Best part is that you don't need to make holes in your dashboard.

I think i have made a wiring diagram but i am not sure, anyway i can check it on my seven and make a diagram.
