SLR69
Are the Superlight R (SLR) split rim rear wheels 8" or 8.5" ? I haven't taken one off yet to measure or see if there is a size on them but looking at previous posts on Blatchat there seems to be differing opinion whether they are 8" or 8.5". If they are 8.5", then a 205 tyre that is fitted as standard seems a little small/stretched ?! (a 225 tyre would seem more appropriate).
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted July 25, 2007 Leadership Team Share Posted July 25, 2007 They're 8½". 205 section tyres are a little stretch but I'm told it increases the stability of the tyre when cornering hard. I think 205/55 CR500s were standard fitment on the R500 on 8½" rims. However, the original fitment tyre on the SLR was an ACB-10 with an equivalent width of (IIRC) 245. SLR69
Stu, Thanks for the advice on the width of the wheels. You don't happen to know the length of the wheel studs as well do you that are fitted as standard to the SLR ? I am looking to buy a set of Rial's and need to know whether to go for 8" or 8.5" and Fluke Motorsport who are supplying them have asked for the stud length to ensure that they will fit. Thanks Stuart
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted July 25, 2007 Leadership Team Share Posted July 25, 2007 Stuart, YHMB. Also, I think I'd go for the 7" front 8" rear. This seems to be be the combination generally recommended by MOG and it stretches the 205 tyres less (on the rear).
