Caterham Wind Blocker

There was some talk on here a few years ago about this, I tried it out and it seemed to increase the buffeting effect - seems a better solution is a mesh sceen on the roll bar - interesting to find out how this would work with a half hood though.

I was looking to make up some of these and sell them a short while ago so checked out the patents.

There are patents in place for a wind stop like MGF's with frame and also the more simple type to fasten to a roll bar *confused*

I felt fastening to the front of the roll bar was probably too close to the seat backs and may not work on some types of roll bar (tall FIA)

The perspex type will have storage issues.

I would be interested to know if the are no issues with the JJ type as it looks smaller to what I have seen before.

Posted on this a week or so ago after IOM trip in Biblical monsoons.

Stopped a lot of the mist coming in - the mesh caught it nicely.

Just need to raise head restraints another couple of inches, as they flop to lowest position in the seat backs. Want to source/make some black spacers to fit over the tubes to lift them up off the top of the seat. This should help even more !!

And racing around to come up behind you again. new link to photos

I unintentionally tried something very similar to the "piece of perspex on the roll bar" still of wind deflector when I was moving a load of parts in my Seven a while ago. I had to take a spare windscreen with me so I taped it to the FIA roll bar, just behind the seats, in the same place as the piece of perspex mentioned previously.

It didn't work. The buffeting was worse, in particular you end up with a lot more wind whipping round your neck. I think the JJ solution looks to be a lot better.

SM25T,

I have the same issue with my driver's side S-type, the spring inside that gives the friction has broken off ... can't see anyway of repairing it without ripping the whole seat apart.

What I had in mind was to use a bit of pipelagging, or better still an offcut of the black rollbar padding and put this round and cable tie it.

I should think with 5 minutes work fettling the thing correctly that would almost be invisible (not if you use standard grey pipe lagging of course) and unlike the black waste pipe it wouldn't mark/cut into the leather. *thumbup* *thumbup*

You could even make different lengths so if someone else commonly drives the car (eg SWMBO) you could quickly switch the tube to the approrpriate length one.

Keep off the straight and narrow *tongue* 😬
