Mickrick
Hi all Has anyone used one of these systems? It looks to be good, if it's as good as the Blurb says. Especialy with the downchange blip. If you have, how did you find using it? And is it worth adding to my wish list? I still have an itch to scratch regarding a sequential box The older I get, the faster I was! peterg
Graeme Finlayson had one on his carbon Westfield, do a search on the WSCC Boardroom for pro-shift as he has commented on it and there is a video of it in use somewhere as well... he thinks it's added a link to some of his posts here Edited by - peterg on 11 Jul 2007 09:18:
Mickrick
Thanks peterg But I'm wondering what they'd be like on a car box, such as a Quaife or Elite? The older I get, the faster I was!
Simon.Rogers1
Ask Davey Bee ☹️ Now get the proper job for a car box. See my website and some of the video. 7tips website MY51VEN details and spec Pembrey Video Shelsley Video
Mickrick
I though DB had problems with the Elite box? The Pro-shift web site shows the system fitted to a Hewland box, so I would presume it's powerfull enough for a car box, without the bother of carrying a compressor around The older I get, the faster I was! DSL
It did'nt stay attached to the Hewland gearbox for long Mick, if it was on the car I am thinking it was
Simon.Rogers1
Speak to Dave to get the full picture but I beleive there were problems with both items. I would just confirm my Elite box and PowerTec Powershift PS1have now done a season and a half of Trackday/Sprints. They have been tested to the Nth degree and not just by myself. I can vouch that there have been no problems whatsoever with either unit. The shift is positive and sympathetic. The compressor is not that heavy and weighs no more in fact less together with the elite box than the old 6 spd caterham unit. You could go for a compressed air canister instead which would be fine on the hills and tracks but no good on a long journey. My understanding of electrical systems is that they can overheat. They are also quite harsh. The pneumatic system is more forgiving. Anyway mine works well and I would do it all again. Rob Walker
Geoff Pickin has just had a proshift fitted to his Blackbird engined Caterham.
Mickrick
I'm a bit confused here, as originaly I was refering to the "Pro-shift" system, but Simon is refering to his PowerTec system as "Proshift" I was wondering if anyone has fitted a "Pro-shift" system, and how they find it. The Powertec system Simon has seems to work very well from the video clips. It would be nice to get both sides of the story, especialy as one is an solenoid operated system (Apart from the vacum dowmshift throttle blip) and the other is elecro/pnumatic. DSL
The pro-shift system is fine when operating a nice light shifting bike gearbox, but the requirements for a sequential car box are a little different & I understand it does not cope so well in that setting. I can't really say too much about the car I mentioned as I would not want to cause any aggro, but it was decided in short order for the sake of the engine & gearbox that it was best to remove it. Alex Wong1697456877
Mark Bloor (Boss of Elite) said the proshift was too aggressive for the Elite box but the hydraulic Powertec system was more suitable.

neil.cavanagh
Simon, I believe the AP clutch has been standard on ALL caterham models since at least since 2003.... not that it is particulary relevant to this conversation, but rare is the chance I get to correct you on a mechanical matter!!!! 😬 😬 😬
