ge2
An LSD discussion on another forum has got me thinking about the one fitted to my 7, and I don't know what type it is. I done a good search and couldn't find anything definitive. I understand it was a factory fitted upgrade, can anyone help?
Irrelevant
IIRC, std Caterham LSDs are ZF or Suretrac. If you take a driveshaft out and look in, with a ZF you'll see a cross, with a Suretrac you won't (I think you might see one bar though, not sure ). Angus did an informative article on his website about LSD identification - have a search there.
Stuart Faulds
It will be a Suretrac or ZF depending on age. As Adam says, the ZF has 2 crossed pins visible, while the Suretrac has none (the standard open diff has one pin). The AP acts like an open diff when it's jacked up too. There's also a good chance that it's stamped on the casing somewhere (AP or ZF) along with the ratio (3.92).
ge2
Hi Stuart, You'll probably know, it's C7TFT Graham
New Cat
My 3.92 ZF LSD came from a Roadsport A. I think most of them are ZF. One thing to bare in mind is that in Roadsport A they are unmodified Ford Sierra diffs with rather inappropriate ramp angles for a Caterham. I sent mine to Phil @ R&R for modification, probably a good idea unless you wish to compete in Roadsport A. 1994 1.7 Supersprint De-dion X-Flow.
