Nifty
The CC build guide says 4.5 litres for a dry sumped K. I put 4.5 litres in, but spilt a little trying to pour it down the funnel too quickly and it flowed back out of the cam cover and down the engine .. so to be sure I had enough I put the remainder of the 5 litre can in. Thus I expected some to be thrown out into the catch tank. However, so far I have collected about 1.5 litres in the catch tank which I have put back into the 5 litre can and theres a little more in the catch tank. So that's only 3.5 litres Could there be a problem causing excess oil to be thrown out 🤔 The pressure gauge says that everything seems OK. Keep off the straight and narrow 😬
rj
How did you drain it? It can be a bit difficult to get all out in my experience. And how much did you actually get? /regin
davef
Nifty, did the same as you when I installed my engine - put 4 1/2 litres into the tank. Started it up and ended with a full catch tank and a puddle of oil in the drip tray under the car. So the engine hadn't been fully drained on removal. Now I just measure from the bottom of the tank - 10-10 1/2" depth is where mine settles to if I over fill, so that's what I put into it. That is about 4 1/2 litres but only if I drain that amount in the first place. Dave
Nifty
I really do need to get some more sleep ❗ ❗ I recall now that when I installed the engine I removed the scavenge pump to sump pipe to find that the pickup pipe from the sump was full of oil (and therefore the sump was full). I tried to remove the pickup pipe but it wouldn't budge, so seeing as the oil looked quite fresh (the previous owner told me he changed the oil after every race or trackday) I decided to leave it be. What is the correct method for completely draining the system 🤔 Keep off the straight and narrow 😬
davef
I'm changing the oil on a regular basis, so aim to remove most, but not necessarily all, of the oil. I use an oil extractor and spin the dry sump pump by hand to do this. This leaves some old oil in the pipes. Dave
