RiF
Have a slight oil leak that started after changing the oil on a threaded insert into my sump. Into this I added the oil temp sender. I think the leak is the main insert? Question, should I use PTFE tape on it when I put it back in or something else? jono
Richard, Does the threaded insert have a machined face which mates against a machined face on the sump or is it simply a threaded bush? If the former I would use a compressible copper washer, if the latter I would use PTFE. BTW I used PTFE to joint up my mech oil guage and it worked a treat
shn7
Bear in mind that PTFE may act as an insulator and prevent the temp sender working . Steve. Sussex (West) AO Not forgetting Percy the Polar Bear
Mick Day
Instead of a copper crush washer use a bonded seal which is reusable.
MikeE
Richard, On my 2.0l I had the stack dash oil temp sender in the oil filter housing and when I filled up with oil it started to leak, I whipped it out and put a bit of PTFE tape around the thread and it was fine despite numerous trackdays and 4,500 miles over 2.5 years - so yes it'll be fine. cheers R400 Duratec Build and Modification Pictures here
RiF
Thanks everyone. No surface to butt to, it is just a threaded sort of bolt that goes into the sump as far as you can tighten in. Into this I had a the temp sender inserted. Both have been fine with PTFE tape for say 5000miles but all of a sudden started to leak. I will just re do it with PTFE again, just a pain to take all the oil out again!!! MikeE
richard - if it's in the racelinefilter housing just whip it out, tape up and put back in and you'll lose hardly any oil. R400 Duratec Build and Modification Pictures here
