dickbowyer
My car was supplied with 195/45R15 Avon CR500 on R400/500 alloys and bought some 185/60R14 Yoko AO48Rs on KN Minilite wheels off blatchatter on eBay. The tyres have a very different feel. The Avons are much smoother on the West Sussex B roads whereas the Yokos feel much twitchier and heavier on these roads. Is this what I should expect. Admittedly the Avons are new and the Yokos are just road legal. If I replace the Yokos with the same tyre, will the feel be the same or is it because they are old/worn/secondhand? CageyH
I found Yoko A048's made my car twitchy. I think the sidewalls are too stiff for the 7. Try some Toyo R888's instead. I am currentlyrunning CR500's and quite like them! Only dead fish go with the flow....!
rgrigsby
They will feel very different, the Avons are a much lower profile tyre which makes them fill completly different to yokos. Worn out yokos will feel horrible though, when they have virtually no tread left they do tend to get pretty twitchy. old captain slow
I understand the CR500s are much lighter than AO48s so the unsprung weight will be lower. C7 CDW
MikeW
CR500's are lighter and slightly more grip in the wet. 48's quicker in the dry and a fair bit cheaper. You need more camber on the 48's to get the best out of them MikeW Mega Grad Race No
dickbowyer
Just as an update, fitted new 185/60R14 Yoko AO48Rs and I think I now prefer to CR500s. Certainly all twitchiness gone. Dick 100 dB Superlight SV Duratec R400
Pat the Plumber
what about the khumo's compared to the CR500's are they better than the yoko's. Richard, how's the fuel consumption, has it improved or is mine just thirsty. 😔 sorry if i've hyjacked this topic Duratec is the way forward!! dickbowyer
Hi Pat Don't know about Khumos . Present interval between petrol pump stops is about 160 miles . Not sure the tank is empty just that gauge is reading empty most of time then but as it only cost £25 to fill up with high octane unleaded it does not seem that bad............. . Pat the Plumber
last fill up, with the guage showing 1 litre left, and £28 i'm getting roughly 130-150, and i'm still taking it relatively easy....honest Duratec is the way forward!!
