scooter
I'm right out of hydraulic presses right now... any other tips!
shn7
Bench vice and some socket migth work but I'd go an see a local independent mechanic who will most likely have a press. Got my wishbones done for a tenner. Well worth the saving on blood sweat & tears. Steve. Area Representative Richard Price Posted July 3, 2007 Area Representative Share Posted July 3, 2007 What about a vice? Support the eye of the damper with bit of pipe with an ID just bigger than the OD of the bush so that the bush is free to swell again once just out of the other side. Julian Thompson
Yep - vice works fine. I just turned down a slug of alloy to the right size in the lathe and then blam - just press 'em in!
Wingnonut
Bit "Heath-Robinson", but without a vice I did it with a length of studding 2 penny washers 2 nuts and a socket that was the same size as the hole I was pushing the bush into. Assembled on the studding in this order; nut-washer-socket (open end facing right)-damper-bush-washer-nut Assembled correctly and lined up you do up the nuts and the bush slides in! 😶🌫️ W.Nut . David Lynch
Hijack Scooter. Assuming they're Bilsteins, where did you source the bushes from? 1.4K SS 😬 Job hunting and smiling
Sheds Moderator
Wingnonut, that's an oldie but goldie that I've heard of and never done. It works. I have done it in the past with a vice and sockets which is obviously a good deal quicker.
