Unclefester
Do any of you fine carbon-based lifeforms know what the thread type and size is for the spin-on oil-filter for the following engines Rover K Ford Crossflow Vauxhall 16 valve I'm assuming the Lotus Twink and BDA / BDR are the same as the crossflow but if anyone knows different please let me know. Also the outer diameter of the actual rubber sealing ring would be useful The K series seal is 61mm inner diameter and 73mm outer diameter, the threaded hole is 19mm but I don't know what thread it is...... I need this info for setting up the bypass oilfilter test on the Sevens and the Elise. Once this has been sorted I'll be able to offer these filters to anyone who is interested in running clean oil in their engine, protecting the engine from particles between 5 and 15 microns, as the full flow filter doesn't, and, of course, being smugly green by never having to change the oil again and thus keeping that contaminated oil out of the environment......not that any of us actually tip the filthy stuff down the drain, or burn it, of course! So, if anyone does have these dimensions, I'd be very grateful.... LazerBrain
I should be doing an oil change this week on my K series (providing the weather allows me to continue running in...) How would I be able to determine what the thread type is? If it's something I can easily measure for you, please let me know. cheers, Darren. S47zz
Most oldish Fords 3/4UNF - X flow, Pinto, Zetec etc Renault 20mm Rover's depends on which model some are metric some UNF
rgrigsby
Xflow is definetly 3/4 UNF, I'm running a oil filter from a Mk1 1600Xflow on the remote filter housing for my Duratec. Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
Unclefester
Thanks guys, that's the X flow sorted then. For Rover 'K' according to the Burtons catalogue it's either 3/4 UNF or M20 x 1.5 or M18 x 1.5 I think I'd better ring them. Darren, I've taken the filter off a K series engine here, but I have no way of telling what the thread is! Am now about to ring Burtons....pen in hand, paper to the ready....'erewego........ (Later.....) It seems all 4 cylinder Ford based engines are indeed 3/4 UNF, but as the Duratec is Mazda based it's probably different....does anyone know about the Duratec oilfilter thread and seal diameter? They had no idea bout the Rover K engine though....better ask Oily. Unclefester
Very interesting....in fact, weirdly, the Rover K series used a strange thread for the oilfilter, it's actually none of the above, it's a 13/16 UNF thread! Pretty well unique, though also found on BMC Leyland Maestros and Montegos. *smokin* Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds..ooooh hooo hooo!!... 😬 😬Abbey Road Time-Machine *eek*
I.Mupferit
Most wet sump Duratecs in 7's use the Raceline sump I believe and so use the Raceline oil filter plate which uses the old traditional Ford thread form of 3/4" UNF. Not sure what dry sump users have though. Brent 2.3 DURATEC SV Reassuringly Expensive R 417.39 😬
Bob Simon
As I recall, there are some variations of the Vauxhall C20XE filter nipple. VX Engines supplied by CC have a 3/4-16 thread. Gasket OD is 2-13/16". See thread here... -Bob 94 HPC VX Evo III
Unclefester
Thanks for all that, there do seem to have been a few problems with the VX filters..... 😬 Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds..ooooh hooo hooo!!... 😬 😬Abbey Road Time-Machine *eek*
