DW
Hi. I'm stuck. Normally take the engine out leaving the gearbox in situ (Ford 5 speed). This time I want to take out engine complete with bellhousing and gearbox. The gearbox won't move off the rubber mounting. I presume it just sits on the rubber mounting and isn't bolted in? Has it just bedded itself into place after 11 years? There are 2 bolts which I thought bolted the rubber mounting to the bracket underneath - do I need to remove these? The bolt heads aren't easily accessible from the top.... David 1700XF: click here
Mick Day
2 lateral bolts & nuts (1/2 inch AF spanner) holds gearbox mount to chassis. Big bolt in middle holds gearbox to mount. Undo whichever takes your fancy.
MikeE
as you say there ar 2 bolts which attach the rubber mount (plate) to the chassis - however you'll see in the middle of the mounting plate there's a circular hole and inside is a large bolt which secures the rubber mount to the gearbox. So you can either remove the single rubber mount to gearbox bolt or the two rubber mount to chassis bolts (or both the above). If the gearbox weren't fixed to the mount it'd only be held in place by the two engine mounts and would surely end up moving around! DW
Aha! Undone the one in the hole and it's free. Thanks both.
k80rum
While it's all out, you could weld the two bolts to the gearbox U bracket, then reattach the bracket with the big bolt. This mod makes doing/undoing the 2 nuts a much easier 1-man job in the future as the heads become captive Darren E Website and Emerald maps library Superlight R #

I use a cranked 1/2" spanner to access the nuts & the whole thing comes apart in seconds.
