Value of the remains

How much is the remains of an ex race car (late 1997 K-series) on an S-plate worth?

The car has no engine / gearbox / propshaft or fuel tank. Nor an ECU or exhaust.

It looks like something that has been in a couple of wars, but the chassis is straight.

Narrow track and open diff present. I think the steering rack is the old style, not even an 8%...

It's got an English V5c, but is fairly unattractive here because of it's vintage and the wonderful 180% new car tax at my shores as the car would be taxed as when new...

Edited to remove Academy as I don't know enough about which cars were used for what race series... To be honest I don't know anything at all.

It isn't an Academy car if its a '97 K series. The Academy cars of that era used Ford or Vauxhall 8 valve engines and were live axle. The K series wasn't used for Academy cars along with de dion until 2001.

Hope this helps *thumbup*

Well,

It certainly is a race car, it's a DeDion race chassis, and I have helped the owner transplanting the engine and gearbox to another car (stupid tax issues), but it could of course be a Graduates or whatever car :-p

It's all in Denmark, but I might be able to bring it back to England in two weeks or so.

And depending on the value it'll stay here as a trackday car or be sent back.

Edited 'cos I can't spell

I've passed this link onto a non L7C mate who was interested in a Caterham chassis to put new running gear in. *wavey*

BTW please give generously to Bundle's Big Charity Walk for Asthma research here Ta.

Cheers

Just to make clear:

This is more than just a chassis. Except for the engine and gearbox most of the car is present.

And there's no chance that it'll go for 1250£ - as in that case I'll use it myself.

You didn't exactly big it up did you, so what do you expect people to say, "I'll give you 6 grand just for the pleasure of getting another 7 back on the road". Sorry if I caused offense but you asked what it is worth, I happen to know exactly what it is worth to one guy I know so I told you. 😔

Tyrone,

No offence was taken, but even when I'm trying to be honest I'm also just a little realistic. Although I don't big it up the chassis with a V5 will be worth at least 1k regardless of the condition. If you add up the rest of the bits £250 seems on the low side.

Dave,

You're right, but as I say... I've got a few things to think about already...

Grant,

You are talking realistic money, given the condition of the panels I'd probably expect less than 5k though...

I had seen you post, but don't want to interfere with Dave's sale. And this is not a complete car either, so...

Anyway, I've had a few enquiries offline which I think I have to deal with before putting it up for sale..

All,

just to be clear

t.b.h. I think that what Regin has is probably more suitable to having a K series motor stuffed into it than my '88 x-flow s'sprint. (That's the engine thatcame out of it anyway)

I won't feel aggrieved in any way should Simon buy yours (though you'd better not be in Norfolk on the 15th Sept *tongue*. )

Dave.

X-flow(er) power now resting. Trying Vx for a change.
