1.6 k series, when I try to start the car I have to catch it on the accererater, I have

to keep a few revs on for a couple of seconds before it will tick over on its own.

I assume its a sensor problem but which one. It does this all the time hot or cold.

*wavey* *wavey* *wavey*

Anybody with any idea's.

To reset the ECU - turn the engine off, turn ignition back on but don't start the engine, slowly press accelerator pedal to the floor 5 times, turn off iginition, turn back on and start the engine.

Out of interest, what starter do you have fitted? I have a 1.6 Superligh and replaced the original Magnetti Marelli starter with a Brise and immediately found the same issue as you. When I refitted the origianal the fault was immediately cured which leads me to think that the problem is related to energy drain. Anyway, the Brise starter cured the K series click problem that I was suffering from so I have kept in installed.

Rather than input throttle movement, if I continue to turn the engine over for several more turns it does fire up with no throttle input. I'd be interested to hear how you get on.

Graham,

I currently have an identical problem and have tried removing/replacing the IACV to no avail.

Conor's comments about energy drain could have a bearing, as this problem has co-incided with my battery losing charge.

Could it be that my battery is charging ok, but then not holding charge or producing enough voltage to operate the ECU?

Once it has started, it runs fine - how about yours?

Cheers

Hi again CageyH

Thanks for the help so far, cleaned the IACV, it was really dirty so I was confident

that this would solve the problem. (But it hasn't). Is their any way of testing this

unit to see if is faulty before I replace it.

Does this unit fail often. I suppose the next step is to get the car on a diagnostic

machine.

Now you have cleaned it, reset the ECU again, and try and start the engine without any throttle.

How fast does the engine turn over on the starter, and what voltage does the battery have in it when you try?
