MTH
I've got an intermittent problem with the electrics on my trailer; more specifically the indicators (and I don't mean "yes they're working, no they're not, yes they are...") What happens is that one ofthe indicators on the trailer will stop working, and that on the car will flash at double speed. The hazzards flash at normal speed, but the dodgy one on the trailer doesn't work. The problem can come and go on a journey & wiggling the connector usually makes a difference. This can happen with either indicator, but has never happened with both. Edited to add that the rear, brake & reversing lights all work normally. I suspect a loose wire or dodgy contact, but can't find anything. Could it be a dodgy earth somewhere? Any other suggestions? Thanks Mark Edited by - mth on 26 Jun 2007 13:38:
peterg
I had that happen to me once and on opening the trailer light unit found the bulb had popped out of the bayonet fitting just enough to not make contact unless you went over a bump or similar that pushed it forward to connect again took a while to find it and the only way to stop the car indicator flashing at double speed was to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes (BMW330d) as it didn't seem to realise that the 'faulty' bulb had been replaced even if I disconnect the trailer electrics completely... Phil
Trailer boards are carp quality these days and it is worth checking the wires into the back of the plug on the board, it is also worth buying a plug cleaner as you can get a bad connection as they oxidise.
