The Polisher
Having had my foam block in the cam cover turn to seaweed particles after a coming together of oil and water I am considering leaving it out. What is its function? Has anyone else run without this foam block? Dave H. Mad about S77ENS
CageyH
It helps stop the nut off the back fall into the engine when it vibrates loose! Only dead fish go with the flow....!
Grubbster
I don't have one, I fitted a second hand apollo and didn't bother to get a bit of foam- just made sure the nutt was glued on nice and tight.

The Polisher
Thanks chaps , my wife kept me informed of your comments whilst I was working in the garage so I got straight on and re-fitted the cam cover without the foam after locktighting the nut. I am now completely foamless......thank goodness, cant stand the stuff!! I should be back up and running tomorrow. Dave H. Bricol
If you are worried about the nut falling off - turn the fitting round - put it in from the inside - fit the nut to the outside. Then if the nut does come loose, it can't fall off, or the fitting fall into the engine, as the tube nut on the end of the hose will retain it. If you manage to lose that too - it'll be time to hand over the keys and spanners to someone else . . . Bri

Grubbster
Hmm, I have a new sump foam that I decided not to fit. Should I ebay it or is that morally wrong For a short while only - the Silverstone grid girls here (and a few nice cars!)
