Paul Ray
Can anyone tell me who makes the nicest 4:1 Exhaust manifold for a 1700 Supersprint 91 Caterham?

Phil
I had a 4-1 manifold from Caterham with a 7 inch Tech Craft box from the 7 workshop, transformed the car, the new owner is well pleased with it. Neil MH
I may be wrong but I thought that Powerspeed now have the template for a 1700ss as a result of past orders - and it/they (the front pipes) would therefore, effectively, be "off-the-shelf"? It may be worth giving them a ring. Neil
Area Representative Crudders Posted June 25, 2007 Area Representative Share Posted June 25, 2007 I doubt whether either Caterham or Powerspeed could sell you what you need 'off the shelf' as such - I imagine both would be made to order. Powerspeed definitely have a jig for a 4-1 side exit crossflow exhaust - it was made from my car Redline used to supply their own 4-1 system but now supply the Caterham item IIRC. I've only ever seen mild steel exhausts on early Lotus 7s - any exhaust available these days is almost certainly going to be made from s/s tube. David S
Does anyone have any ideas whether the Caterham or Powerspeed one is better ?
Area Representative Crudders Posted June 25, 2007 Area Representative Share Posted June 25, 2007 As far as I know Caterham only sell fully sealed silencers for the X/F models, while the Powerspeed silencers have removable ends so are repackable. As far as the headers are concerned I shouldn't think there's much in it - I'd be inclined to make price the deciding factor. IIRC Powerspeed told me that the Caterham headers were a tad oversize for most X/F states of tune found in 7s, and they have reduced the bore slightly in their version. I'm no exhaust expert but I do recall the Caterham 4-1 system being sold as a 'race exhaust' option when I built my kit, so there could be something in that. Neal Worth
Slight thread hi-jack. Does anyone have any experience of long primary 4-2-1 manifolds for the X-flow? I know they are of some benefit to various tuned K's, just wondered if there would be any reason why it wouldn't work on a X-flow?
